It's been a few years I've been buying and selling firearms for my "collection" (accumulation?) Mostly milsurps for long gun and pistols (9mm and .38 special).

I got a C&R for my milsurps and buy and sell locally and via auction for modern stuff (pistols and revolvers).

Here's what I'm thinking: Gunbroker is great for finding whatever it is you want. But, you'll probably pay market price for it. Occasionally a bargain, but mostly, 'cause there's so many knowledgeable folks bidding, you're not going to get a "steal." (That said, I picked up a S&W .38/44 Outdoorsman for hundreds less than the usually going rate, but that was a rarity). So lots of guns but not lots of hot prices.

On my local Armslist, on the other hand, not a lot of selection (except for Glock, but who cares about that)...but more than occasionally a great deal, as the folks listing don't seem as knowledgeable as those on gunbroker, nor are there as many people looking and no bidding. Just "for sale.". I've gotten more than a few good deals there (just picked up a like-new Browning Hi Power Practical with Spegel grips for $550)

Same pretty much holds true for my local state gun forum, not a great selection but no less than honest prices and more than an occasional bargain. They generally have more knowledgeable folks listing.

Finally there are the gun forums such as the Smith & Wesson, Sig, Walther, Beretta, etc. Not a lot of bargains there (an occasional one but ya gotta be the first person to respond)....but absolutely fair value, good condition, honest pricing, knowledgeable people and the kind of folks ya wanna do business with.

Of course there are the local gun shops and pawn places...but that's a matter of geography. I've got a good one here in Western Washington...but back in NY when I lived there, not so much.

Wadda ya think....is your experience about the same?

I check armslist everyday. Probably more scams than Gunbroker, so it’s a little bit of a hassle. But I’ve found some fantastic deals. Like a Smith 681 in great condition for $350, unfired JM 1894 in 357 for $700, and several others. If you’re looking for deals, I think armslist is where it’s at. If you’re looking for something specific, Gunbroker is where you want to be.

Nice price on the Practical. That is about what I paid for mine back in the early 90's. Still have it with the box and papers, but it has had a few thousand rounds through it.

One online site that I have had good luck on is Gun Auction. I have picked up a few bargains and resold them on GunBroker.

I find my best deals on the local/statewide for sale sites/papers. I look at all your choices and more and have found deals on all. You have to know what the prices in your area are and the funds on hand to buy something at a moments notice, but the deals are still out there if you put in enough time IMHO. I even have found good deals on the buy/sell area on here.;)

I have never purchased off GunBroker.

I have purchased a few off Armslist, in-state, making good deals each time.

I've purchased one off a local forum, got a decent price, but not a screaming deal.

I prefer to stay off GB, looking just to see what prices are.

I’ve had my best luck at my local pawn shop and on GunBroker. I hit the pawn shop about once a week to see what they have. I’ve bought 14 guns on GunBroker. I’m not superstitious, but the only time I got screwed was on number 13, maybe I should be.

Never purchased from Armslist but have purchased from GunBroker. Nothing wrong with GunBroker if you know your prices and are careful to watch the dealer ratings. No different than dealing with Amazon.com.

I've bought and sold on Gunbroker and have done well. When I buy I decide on a price I'm willing to pay that is my bid, no more. I've been out bid most times but I have gotten some decent deals and for my price. Back when e-bay allowed gun sales I did great on my sale items. Haven't bought anything on Armslist yet but I do peruse it frequently for something that gets my attention.

Sold locally two handguns and rifle listed on Armslist, all buyers had CCW permits. Sold a 10/22 and accessories listed on Rimfire Central , I really appreciate the members helping me out.

One from Gun Broker .. I like to see and inspect what I buy . BUT I did find what I wanted and paid less then I expected on Gun Broker Bid low and never thought I would win ..
