Gunbroker vs. Gunsamerica

I didn't even try gunsamerica because you have to register just to look at images of the guns, and the software looks antiquated.

Not anymore. they appear to have removed that requirement recently.

Gunsamerica still doesn't let you see the pictures. They'll let you see "previews", but not the whole thing. Pretty darn cheesy, and a complete turn off. Not planning to register there.

Gunbroker for the win.

could you explain exactly what you mean by that? I was just able to go to gunsamerica and see all the full sized pictures I wanted to. I wasn't even logged in, forget registered.

Sure

I have bought stuff of of gunbroker and gunsamerica. Gunbroker is easy to work with, and has a good safety valve of the feedback. On Gunsamerica I bought a 1903a3 but was able to do a FTF all said and done. Both are good but ive taken to just using the forums here on THR and a few others and stuff sells just as quick, and no fees whatsoever:).

I find the interface on Gunbroker to be much easier to get around than GunsAmerica (for one thing GB uses an older version of eBay's software). I find it almost impossible to find what I'm looking for on GA.

Auction Arms is fine as well, just not nearly as much traffic as Gunbroker (and I find 90% of the time if its on AA its been cross posted on GB).

I just wish there was a better way to search locally (GB does allow you to search by state under "Smart Search" but I'd like to narrow it down to X miles from where I am) and I'd like to be able to filter out dealers.

Auction Arms has a categorization of auction items that is much easier to navigate and search than GunBroker. That alone makes me much more partial to AA than GB.

I have bought several from gunbroker. The others are such a pain to navigate I don't even bother with them any more.

I like both Gunbroker and Auction Arms. I've tried to buy some stuff on Gunsamerica that was already sold and I don't like their categorization/search, I don't waste my time with GA anymore. Gunbroker has the most traffic and items listed, but they have a 15 minute rule for the last bid that I hate. Auction Arms has a much better search and navigation.

I bought some mags on GB once about 3 years ago, the auction dident end untill 10 days, about day 8 I got sent to work in seattle and totally forgot about the mags 5 days after the auction ended I finally made it home, to see I had 4 emails from the seller and 2 from GB. I tryed to log on and GB said I had been kicked off for breaking the site rules... about a year ago I finally emailed them 3times about it and they let me back on.... Its a great tool to use when you want to sell or buy, but the staff is not as friendly as ebay... there is even a webpage against GB...

Gunbroker is OK, but there IS one thing I commonly find there that is very irritating. Most of the sellers seem to want to start the bidding low, but place a reserve on the item. This seems brain-dead stupid to me. Why make the bidder guess what your bottom price is? I fail to see the advantage of this practice versus just starting the bidding at the "reserve price".

the reason for

The reason people do this is that Gunbroker has no fees (unless the item sells). So basically, you put an item up for sale with a high reserve in order to feel out what the item is worth (basically you don't plan on actually selling it).

Note that if you go to the advanced search, there's an option to exclude items with a reserve price. That is what I do when looking to actually bid on something.

I am a very happy and satisfied customer of Gunbroker.com and a very dissatisfied and unhappy former and never again customer of gunsamerica.com.

Gunbroker rocks - gunsamerica is amateurish and I would recommend nobody ever go there.

I didn't even try gunsamerica because you have to register just to look at images of the guns, and the software looks antiquated.

Not anymore. they appear to have removed that requirement recently.

I had to register to see the full size-pics on gunsamerica last week. Since the initial login I have been able to see the full-size pics on each listing (cookies, I suspect).

I used to check Gunsamerica regularly. When they changed their software a few years ago, the site became way too much of a PITA to bother with.

Auction Arms seems to have much less of what I'm looking for, though on occasion I've noticed a few bargains.

By default, and by seemingly offering more of what the customers want, Gunbroker has become the 600 pound gorilla, IMO. So long as they don't screw up somehow, I believe they'll just keep getting bigger, and therefore better. The more good stuff a site has, the more interest it will generate.

Gunsinternational is an excellent site for selling, not auctioning, guns. All respectable sellers, along with established businesses like Cabela's among others.

Auction sites have snipes, ghost bidders and some very shaky vendors.

I like Gunbroker's interface, and AuctionArms categorization scheme. Visit them both regularly.

I've purchased 3 or 4 times off Gunbroker.com and once off GunsAmerica....

had good experience both times....

All but one time, the item was NIB from a dealer. The other time it was used from a dealer.

Gunbroker has solved the sniping problem with their 15 min. rule. And by requiring a confirmed credit card, they have the actual identity of their users. Plus the volume is very high... so usually a good place to shop.

GunsAmerica seems to deal with some shady characters, as they are always posting warnings, etc...

I check Auctionarms, but the volume seems to be a lot lower and the prices higher.

Great to have choices....

"From my experience buy from AuctionArms.com and sell on Gunbroker.com. Better buys on AuctionArms.com, firearms seem to sell at a higher price on Gunbroker.com due to the larger audience"

+1 on that one. Some of the penny auctions on auctionarms yield real bargains

I just like to look at the pictures on GunsAmerica the prices are high and they are not many auctions on there or accessories for that matter. GunBroker all the way for me.
