They charge one dollar just to verify that your account is active. Then they send you a statement every month telling you they are still holding your dollar to be applied to any expenses you incur on Gunbroker. Hasn't caused me any trouble.

No problems for me, they just charge a buck to it, so you'll have a $1 credit on your account afterwards.
Don't let paypal know anything about firearms in the description of payment reason. I wish there was a pro-gun payment method that was as widely acceped everywhere.

Where is PayPal based?

My wife has used them on E-Bay for her Meissin porcelain objects, and many gun owners now avoid PayPal in protest, or so it appears.
If she uses E-Bay again, I might ask her to switch, if there is an alternative.

its tough to find other payment processers who are not biased - several i have used make you sign agreements stating you are not using it to buy or sell guns - paypal isn't the only one - its just one of the ones that actaully will freeze your accounts/take your money/kick you out if they catch you buying or selling a gun - i had it happen - almost lost $400 after a sale i made through paypal without realizing they were like that - NEVER NEVER mention any gun related sale in any messages sent through paypal if you do use them to a buy or sell - personally i wont use them unless i have to

Where is PayPal based?

PayPal is owned by eBay. They're based out of California. New eBay customers have to sign up for PayPal, no exceptions, whether you use it or not.
