Titan, He is NOT in the Mission Control building. I know because I work at JSC, in Mission Control. Mission Control is building 30, and this person is in Building 44. We call building 44 "ESTL" for "Electronic Systems Test Lab" (but there are other facilities within that building, ESTL is just the part that my group works with the most, so that's what we end up calling it)

I just got home about 1/2 hour ago, about an hour later than normal due to the fact that we were told not to leave the building. Some of the second shift began to show up, but security either didn't let them on-site, or directed all traffic away from B44. All was calm where I was.

I think security is really going to suck for the next few days, depending on what turns out really happened.

Since (thankfully) the USPS seems to be doing a lot better, maybe "Going NASA" will replace "going postal" from some years back.

Maybe NASA can put up signs with replaceable numbers similar to a "lost time acciden" sign I saw at a local power plant: "NASA. It has been XXX days since a lost mind incident. Sanity First is Our Motto."

I hope and pray everyone ends up all right.

Sorry for the bad info. Fox26 was(is still) reporting he is in the mission control building.

I am not familiar with JSC myself, I just happen to be across the street today.

SWAT is slowly walking out. Seems two dead, gun man and hostage.

No need to apologize. Watching the press conference now. One hostage dead, one survived (he supposedly taped her hands and feet with duct-tape) and the gunman killed himself while the SWAT was trying to make contact with him.

A sad day, especially when it hits this close to home.

The building is reportedly for Communication/Engineering. Houston police were being dispatched to the scene.

What's with the hating toward engineers lately? We used to be the people nobody paid any attention too. Now everyone is out to get us because we have awesome pocket protectors and enviable differential equation skills.

HPD is saying snub nose or 2.5 inch .38 or .357 revolver.

Very tragic. I am glad more people were not hurt, it could have been worse. Sounds like this guy had someone in mind to take out.

WHAT IS WITH THIS MONTH!!!!!!!

It seems like half the mass shootings happen this month alone...

In this case, I'm guessing domestic dispute escalation, as we 'only' have one murder, one injury, and one suicide.

The news media won't be happy only a few shots were fired out of a 5 shot revolver.

Oh they'll just say it was a fully automatic high capacity revolver and show the standard picture of a Tec-9 on the news.

It is useless to speculate. But it is odd that some choose to act out their aggression during the spring months. I biological trigger does make sense.

In any case as tragic and high profile as it is it does not help things.

If security there is similar to most such government facilities, you could drive a caravan of camels loaded with bombs through the gate if you have the right sticker or pass, which can often be found in boxes of Cracker Jacks.

I'm sure Johnson Space Center is another gun-free victim zone.

It most definitely is! I briefly had a major OH S**T! moment when I first heard about it, thinking here I am disarmed, best I can do is run and hide, and probably die tired and scared!.

But once I realized Bldg 44 was over a mile from me, I could relax -- a rather large amount of firepower quickly surrounded the building.

Having to stop and show ID to an armed guard with the potential for a "random" search didn't stop this loony! Had he come in blasting at random people it would have been much worse, appeared he had specific targets in mind and let everyone else evacuate.

Ended as murder, suicide :(

Your opinions of security at Government facilities is very wrong post 911, and I'm sure things will be more hassle next week.
