Guns and cats

So since this thread is probably on its way to being shut down, allow me to ask: what the heck is your point? I have seen some pretty big idiots, both liberals and conservatives and it did not matter one bit whether they loved or hated cats. Were you trying to imply something about the political convictions and intelligence of people who love cats? If so, what a shame; the discussion has gone to the dogs!

All the best,
Glenn B

We (my wife and I) have cats also! I love all animals. But only own cats!I would have thaught that most gun owners would be dog lovers! But I own Cats and Guns!

Cats...

the other white meat.

I can't believe no one said that before.

I am kidding though. I don't have any dogs or cats now, but when my kids were young I had a whole housefull....cats and dogs, that is....only 4 kids...........honest.

I'll throw this in.
Do you think you are tough?
Odds are you aren't near as tough as one of my cats, Maggie.

She was one of my "barn cats", just a little wild.
I noticed her limping and it looked like a Mesquite thorn in her paw.
I couldn't get it, so I took her to the Vet. Big bill and they said they got a thorn out.

Over the next couple weeks she still favored the paw a little but still climbed trees, etc
After a couple weeks she still favored the paw a little so I took her back to the Vet and told him there's got to be something wrong with her paw.

When I picked her up, that evening, the Vet said, You aren't going to believe this.
For two weeks she had a Mesquite thorn in her paw that was so long it extended up into her wrist joint. The vet had to cut open the top of her leg to get it out.

How would you like having a 4 or 5 inch long thorn up through your palm into your wrist for 2 weeks.
I ain't that tough. :(

I kept Maggie in the house for a couple days to let her heal. She thought that beat barn living, so she moved in.

To those that joke about shooting cats. I'm a big fan of equal rights, non-discrimination, etc You shoot my cat(s), I shoot you. ;)

(Every cat that's ever kept me have been inside cats. So if someone shoots a cat in my house, there's some explaining to do. Or just an ATF inspection.)

Good Grief.

It's amazing how many people either love or hate cats. I guess I love em'.

We have three, two boys and a queen. They allow us to live with them. It's a ball.

I read once that pets make you live a longer, better life. I agree.

DBMF,

Not EVERYONE at THR has cats... there are two dogs here at The Minor, a Brittany spaniel and a Fila Brasileiro. Neither of them tolerate cats, and the Brittany won't even let birds stay in the yard very long.

Ailurophile here. 3 strictly indoor cats, none declawed, 2 males & 1 female, all spayed/neutered, and all were "throwaways." The big guy runs and hides whenever guns appear. I guess he thinks they're bigger versions of the "bad kitty" squirt bottle. The other male couldn't care less and would probably try to chew on them if I let him. The female loves hanging out inside my gun bench.
I think BobCat summed up the similarities between cats & gun people pretty well.
I like dogs, but one hasn't come my way yet. I can't go to the pound looking for one because I'd try to bring everything home. You know what they say about us gun women: cold steel = warm heart. :p

I have had cats all of my life, most had jobs to do and did them fairly well. When I was kid and lived in the country, we had a big siamese who kept rodents and such out of the house, now that I am city folk, we have a smaller one who keeps bugs out of the house, he is pretty good to.

I respect them for what they are, the most effeciant killers on land. people see a 30 pound dog and think "how cute" people see a 30 pound cat and think "OMG don't let it eat me!"

I had a BEAUTIFUL sweet black cat -- even her whiskers and gums were black. I lost her in the divorce. My ex put her to sleep one month after the judge dropped the gavel.

Luckily, I am a forgiving man.

Hopefully, when I buy a house this summer, 2dWife and I will get another cat.

But is there an explanation to the correlation between cats and gun people.
Yes. I'm a gun person, which is pretty obvious since I hang out here.

What isn't obvious is that I have a eleven year old sister, she has a cat.

I have a love-hate relationship with cats. I like cats that are friendly and will sit with you and be petted on the couch. I really dislike mean cats that are antisocial and don't like anyone around.

I have dogs, though.. they are the best friends.

We have two. I was never a cat guy, but this one is my favorite. He is very dog-like. He always runs up to you when you get home - likes to be petted and held (but doesn't rub against you like a cat) -He runs TO noise and action (especially to the window when there is activity outdoors)- and he is smart beyond belief. If I do something - he will try to do it (including: answering the phone -turning the door knob -unlocking locks). He's a very lovable busy body. The best part is that he will let the kids carry him around like a doll and loves the attention they give him.

Guns for cats

Oh, heck, I guess I need to read the titles more closely. When I went to this thread, I thought the topic was "Guns for cats" . . . you know, like "Guns for elk" or "Guns for rhino" . . . what a disappointment. :(

[rant]Besides my allergies, I don't like cats and don't like them pooping and peeing all over my garden, patio, etc. I have no problem with cat owners who keep their cats indoors, but there's a certain class of cat people who let their cats run loose so OTHER people have to put up with their %$#@! animal's nuisance behavior . . . and they come up with all manner of excuses when they argue that that's OK. :cuss: :fire: [/rant]

First of all, to keep this gun-related: based on their purrsonalities and the characteristics of various guns, what sidearm would *your* cat(s) carry, if they had thumbs?

As I've said before, Mr. Earl would have carried a Browning Highpower - one of the deep blue ones from the 1960-1970 time frame, not a parkerized one like mine.

Bastet would have carried a Smith Model 36 - Chief's Special. About the minimum size in a reliable caliber -.38 special - for someone who never expected to *need* it, but would not go unarmed by choice.

Texas Highway 36 carries a Glock 19 - because it is popular and everyone told him it was a good choice.

Zippy has a shorty AR15 carbine, with a three-position stock and Jewel trigger (just to keep the trigger pull the same as *my* AR).

I'll stop now.

Tallpine,

They *do* look into my eyes and let me "know they care" - but not with the adoring look I've gotten from dogs. I like most dogs, grew up with dogs, not cats; but I'm not adorable and in makes me uncomfortable to see that look in anyone's eyes.

And - for those who do not want cat excrement in their flower beds, a tip: orange peels or lemon peels. Or call the neighbors and tell them to come clean up the mess or you call animal control.

Purrrrs,
BobCat

My girl has a cat I got from the pound for her birthday. It's worthless but it keeps her happy. I love my dogs, all of them are rescue animals. 1 lab which I posted her story on the roundtable.(BRING IT BACK) A lab mutt she is the smartest dog I have. Last but not least Coolio a malimute husky mix.... buy far the dumbest dog I have ever met but extremly protective.

Cats are good for chinese resturants. :neener:

BTW, one or more of our cats sometimes go on walks with us, up to a mile from the house and back. You should see people's faces as they drive by on the county road seeing my wife and I and a dog and a cat or two accompanying us. The cats are pretty smart, and get way off the road when a car comes along.

Gun related: I carry a 357 mag Security Six when walking my cats. :p

"Odie" is on my lap right now purring and reaching his front paws out to my neck and face. :) He is a neutered male and is the best hunter of our cat herd.

Nah... dog is much better...more meat, a larger target, and easy to call in. Tender Vittle cage raised puppy is the best though. :neener:
