Everyday the Miami Herald(Pravda West)prints two or more anti-gun letters against the newly passed guns in parking lot bill.
No links are provided to these letters(wonder why?)so I will have to print out the last two.Like Dave Barry says "I am not making this up".
The first is particularly hysterical and hilarious in its stupidity. To wit:

New Gun Law

Re the April 15 story Gov Crist signs guns-at-work bill:This is absolute insanity. What happens when a car with a gun gets stolen-or did that possibility not cross Gov.Crist's mind? Now the car thief can become a gun-man ,too.
The only possible reason I can imagine for such a law is that the National Rifle Association is behind this lunacy.Nothing else makes sense to anyone with sound judgment.

Susan Levy Allen,Lutz,Florida
(Editors Note:Susan is being evaluated as we speak).Next:

To think that I thought it easier to pass and enforce strict gun laws than to address and cure the ills of society that put criminals on the streets.
Guess I've had it backwards all along.

Toby Davidow,Miami,Florida
(Toby's confusion is not as serious and he is expected to be released on his own recognizance tomorrow.)

These are our fellow Floridians, albeit the Heralds chosen speakers.
Is there hope for tomorrow?
Only the Shadow knows.

Write up a stock letter in Word, using variables for the date, and another for the number of days that have passed in which nobody has shot up their workplace.

Send the e-mail every day. :)

It'd be good if you played confused as to why people aren't doing the things that they are supposed to be doing, as suggested in the paper.

Hi, Winchester 73. When the NRA-ILA sent notices on this bill I did as suggested and sent letters. When they notified us of polls regarding it were in various FL papers, I responded to those polls. Although I retire in June, I believe no employer should be able to prohibit their employees from being able to defend themselves while enroute to and from work. That is in complete opposition of our constitutional - and human - rights.

And, I also send emails to other gun nuts here in FL when things like this come up. Right now I'm involved in promoting the bill to clean up the act of the ATF guys.

Keep writing!

If Susie is so worried about guns being stolen with the cars (anyone living in south Florida knows how effective the anti-car theft laws are) maybe we should let people CCW into work. As long as my gun is on my hip, I'm not worried about any thug taking it.

Once again, we need to use different/more correct terminology to offset the garbage from the left.

I say the this law is not "Guns at Work", but more like "Legal defense in my Vehicle", or something similar:

Shotgun Behind my Seat law
What's in my truck is none of your business law
I have nothing illegal law

The usual "sky is falling". At my work place a lot of co-workers are freaked out and you should hear the stuff they are saying. It is like once July 1st comes, there will be shootouts on a daily basis. Most of my co-workers are smart folks but so ignorant. I am trying to talk some sense to them but with mixed success so far. At least they agree that laws or lack thereof, will not prevent a criminal mind from committing a horrible deed.

Comancho, you should tell them it's already legal to take your gun to work and INSIDE your work place. That should make them feel better about this new law.

Seriously, I am amazed out how ignorant people (both pro and anti) in Florida are about gun laws in this state. My own family used to be very ignorant about gun laws (this is changing:evil:) we've been in Florida since the turn of the last century, before air conditioning and for the most part roads.

Goodwill Ambassadors

Remember that part of what we do in responding to this kind of rhetoric is attempt to 'convert' that person. So demeaning them does no good. Something along the line of "I understand your fears....BUT..." is a better way to go.

Many Americans are NOT firearms owners and are not keyed into the mentality we have about self-defense, crime statistics, etc. and their way of thinking about things is not centered around firearms. Our approach to them needs to reassure them and to help them with the logical progression so that they reach the right conclusion without being berated.

Like it or not we are Goodwill Ambassadors and our demeanor, appearance and communications with others needs to reflect that.

Dave, I'm all for the fourth option, let's call it the "What I have in my car is none of your damn business!" Law.

That being said, you have to consider the source on the letters. The Miami paper, like nearly every other paper in a major city in Florida is rabid left wing. They've never met a gun control law or a developer they didn't like.

The one good thing is that the only people who pay any attention to these letters are other anti-gun nuts.

The thing is, what about the customers who park in these lots. I've never seen a sign saying "stay off of this property if you have a gun in your car." If these idiots think that every car that pulls into their parking lots was driven by some bleeding heart who wouldn't allow a gun within a mile of himself they are more naive than I ever suspected. Maybe people don't carry guns in their cars and trucks in south Florida (but I doubt that is the case) but in the northern and central part of the state it isn't an uncommon practice; especially where the rural areas tend to meet up with the urban.

The important thing is that the law passed. This is a great day for you folks in the land of gators and oranges. :)

Now it is important that we respond to the detractors by saying: "Show me." Tell them that this is a great time to prove that gun control works. Say, 'When everyone dies we will be more than happy to repeal the law.'

Thank you all for the encouragement.
Just opened the Herald now at lunch and am startled by just a single guns at work letter. And its pro-gun!Somehow this one slipped through:
Titled:Self-defense

Re the April 19 letter Guns at work:As of March 31,there were 632,783 people licensed by the state to carry firearms. The guns-at-work bill that was passed is for these people only. They can carry guns into supermarkets, malls and movie theaters.
Most do so on a regular basis, with no incident.I don't believe that everyone should be able to carry a gun, just law abiding residents who wish to defend themselves.
Kurt Nicol,Miami

Thank you,Mr Nicol. Although I believe the number of permit holders is closer to 430,000 ,this is a positive sign.May more letters of this commonsense type appear.:)

You really think you got it bad?

Lets all contact Ms. Shaw and detail our plans to tax her cosmetics which have as much relationship to Chicago crime as my guns and ammunition. Scan the TRib site for their report of the 5 people executed last night. Or the local news anchor mugged by a loony. And they think we don't need RKBA!!:cuss:
