Anybody know what handgun or handguns the Iraqis use? Soemhow I thought BHP. Whatever it is, a lot will be coming home...

God bless our troops and President.

The one that seems to be captured with some frequency is an indigenously produced licensed copy of the Beretta 92FS 9mm pistol.

I think that Gulf War II vets will have some significant importation hurdles.

Interesting

Didn't know this. Yeah, what would be the point of taking the chance of bringing a cheap version of the pistol you already use home.

I was hoping for something really exotic. Guess that's saved for the big wigs.

Well the Marines I was listening about on the radio had discovered a weapons cache complete with "Tarik pistols--Made in Iraq, licensed by Beretta."

The "Made in Iraq" rollmark would be worth having the pistol rendered inoperable if that were necessary in order to bring it back. I am sure the FedGov and the armed services are wimpy about importing functioning war trophy guns.

The procedure for bringing home war trophy guns is still on the books. Unless you've been ordered not too, I would assume it's doable.

Why bring home another 92? Well, how about because it was free?

In Vietnam, there was a different program. You simply paid $20 for the rifle you "lost". There are probably more than a few M16s sitting in footlockers.

Iraqi sidearm

I saw one photo of an Iraqi officer who clearly had a Hi-power in his holster. It was a shot in Newsweek showing the Iraqis looking for a downed pilot in the trigris river, who wasn't there.

Some one posted that the majority of the Hi-powers in Iraq are FEG clones not FN made Brownings.

Still I think it would be cool to be able to bring back a pistol from the war like Grandpa did. I can't imagen with all the kooky gun laws that we have now, that a soldier would be able to bring anything more than a sunburn back from Iraq.

We get a briefing on this every year (My Nat'l Guard Unit).

War trophies are a big no-no, and can get you thrown in prison. So can bringing your OWN pistol TO the war...

I don't claim to understand these regulations, but there they are.

The Colonel who commanded the 197th Infantryy Bde at Ft. Benning told me they found a couple of thousand 9mm single stack handguns in GW I. I "think" we're talking about the same "Made in Iraq" handguns. He wanted to bring them all back to Benning and have for each for each soldier in his command......

Needless to say, this wasn't "allowed"..:barf: :barf: :barf:

The HP clones that were issued by Iraqi military were Argentine FMs not FEGs. FIW FMs are FN licensed HP clones.

I'm pretty sure the Tarik is a clone of the Beretta 1951 and not the 92FS. The Tarik is basically identical to the Egyptian Helwan.

There are also a bunch of Makarovs, CZs and whatever else they could buy on the international market.

Note CZ50 in Fedayeen's hand.

I saw a pic of a Syrian police officer with a CZ-52 in the 1st Gulf War.

I think the info minister carries a BHP of some type. He also has a dual mag pouch on his left side that looks like it is non-military. It is open at the top for speed reloading. I think he might be a gun nut.
