Guns on Frasier?

Anybody catch Frasier last night?

Episode involved shooting, which was cast in both a positive and negative light. Niles finds out how fun, relaxing, and even "meditative" that target shooting can become when he goes to the range with Martin. He lauds the focus that a shooter has to possess and even attends a gun show, fondles an ankle holster, and intends to purchase a pistol...only to keep locked at the shooting range, of course. The throw away line to his wife is "I'd never keep a gun in the same house as your mother."

But of course, Niles' shooting buddies at the range invite him to their compound and turn out to be members of a militia.

What do you expect?

Yeah, but I bet the militia compound in Seattle has really great coffee. When the economy was better there, I bet they could afford treadmills for the clubhouse (do militia boys have clubhouses?).

No, the compound was in Idaho. Funny, but it doesn't help us out any. I was so excited last night about this and then they just had to make the "gun nuts" extremists plotting to overthrow the government. Oh, well, what would you expect from the likes of Kelsey Grammer.

I told my wife last night as soon as I saw them at the range this would be a topic of discussion this morning and she laughed. Guess she doesn't know all of you as well as I do.

One thing to think about.....

Even though the great majority of shooters I have associated with were wonderful, generous, kind, gentle, intelligent people we have all met the stereotype.

I take TV shows with a grain of salt unless they are specifically and heavily biased in their message. For example King of The Hill has had some absolutely hillarious stuff at our expense with Dale and his gun club but let's face facts those people, although rare, do exist and do deserve to get made fun off.

Sometimes a joke is just a joke. I am pretty thick skinned though and proud to be an equal opportunity offender who will take shots at any race, creed, religion, etc. and so forth. All only in good fun and never to hurt. If I ever offend anybody please tell me as I do not mean to. On the other end of the spectrum I can certainly take jokes about my race, creed, religion or status as a gun owner. PC works both ways.

Ok, so that is my story and I am sticking to it. So a Jew, a Catholic, a Prostitute, an American Indian and a duck walk into a bar....................................................An Irish guy in the bar says........."Geeezzz you would have thought at least some of you would have seen it coming."

Betcha thought that was going to take the low road didn't ya.

Well, to its credit, Frasier (the show) does have a lot of fun at the expense of the high-brow left. Martin Crane, the father on the show, is about as conservative as they come (ex-cop, outdoorsman, regular guy), and it usually turns out that he is the voice of reason on the show.

It is true, though. Go to just about any gun show, and you're going to find a few folks walking around who would welcome an overthrow of the government.

I saw it too. All in all it wasn't bad. They had to throw some things in their to make it a joke. I thought the "milita" part wasn't the worst they could have done. After all, Niles goes from a hoplophobe to someone willing to buy a pistol. He is even more into it than his dad (a former police officer).

Look, guys, while I'd love to see an educational propaganda piece about how great gun owners are, that would not be funny. Militia wackos who hole up in compounds and declare that they don't have to pay taxes because the flags in the courtrooms have gold fringe on them are funny. Ha ha funny.

I didn't see the episode, but it sounds to me like Niles is biased against guns and shooters. His dad, a gruff old cop, takes him shooting and he learns that it can be enjoyable and safe. Then he meets some weirdos who also like shooting, but are crazy?

Be honest--who here has never had that experience?

I thought the best shooting TV show episode was the father and son rifle match on King of the Hill.

Waitaminute, you mean there was a TV show that involved firearms and nobody spouted off about "9 children killed a day" or "you're more likely to shoot a family member"?

I wonder how he is in real life? One of his nephews is a newly elected Democratic state senator in IL. I spoke to him Monday morning before he went back to capital for that day's session. While a Democrat in IL, I saw him Monday morning sell about 85 rifles at his family's auction business. He is very pro-gun & like most downstate IL politicians he understands the political implications of voting anti. He told crowd at the auction that there is not enough support in the IL Senate to pass any anti legislation proposed by the Chicago crowd.

I don't agree how he stands on other issues but at least on this one I'm comfortable.

I almost never watch the show but happened to turn it on right when they were at the range. I watched just to see how it ended, sad thing is there are some wackos. At least Niles did enjoy the time he was shooting.

The taping I went to see, "Fraiser" was pretty drunk when he walked in, and so they had to give him an hour to "sober up"...

I'm not surprised... Hollyweird always casts a strange light..
