I just finished winning the bid in an auction for a Colt Diamondback .38. Been looking for a good one for a while, and I engaged in a bidding war and won this one. It brought to mind the list of 'critical' weapons to pick up if you are a dedicated collector. I have 35+ weapons at the moment and have a mental list of what I want. Here are some of the critical weapons I look for:

Colt Diamondback .38 (just got one)
Colt Python .357
AK-47 (have one)
SKS (have one)
K98 Mauser
M1916 Mauser (have one)
M48 Mauser (have one)
Swiss K-31 Rifle (have one)
Mosin Nagant Rifle
M44 Mosin Magant (have one)
Steyr M95 (have one)
Enfield .303 (have one)
Carcano 6.5
1911 .45 pistol (have one)
Walther P38 (have one)
Walther PPK
CZ-52 (have one)
CZ-75 (have one)
Luger
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
Smith & Wesson M29
AR-15
Colt SAA
M1903 Springfield
M1917 Eddystone
Winchester M94
S&W M1917
S&W 325PD
Browning HP

I have a few more to add later. What do you think are critical weapons to add to a collection?

Depends on what your objectives are. But personally, I'd consider:
Pre-64 M70 Winchester
Pre-63 M94 Winchester
Colt SAA
M1903/ 03A3 Springfield
Colt Woodsman

you left out the all mighty ar. You're gonna catch hell from the ar15.commies

ar15.com person "sks and ak-47, that's communist junk, you need a real rifle and the only one you can get to avoid our scorn is this (insert picture of gratuitiously tacticool AR that would only cost your firstborn child)"

I agree, M1903 and M1917 are critical to get. M94 winchester is a good one. I'm not a hunter, so the M70 doesn't catch me as much. Colt SAA is good.

Mainly, I'm look'in for prisitne 2nd Series (1947-1972) Colt D-frame revolvers
(aka: Detective Specials, Cobras, or Agents)

BUT

I will never pass up a good deal on any old Smith & Wesson revolvers,
or West German SIG-SAUER Classic P-Series auto's.

Distant 3rd:

Also, any M4 Colt .223's~! :scrutiny:;):D

Woodsman
22 diamondback
Model 17 Smith
Model 41 smith
513T remington
Winchester 22 lever

Ahh I better quit before I spend all your money.

Beretta 84, or Browning BDA 380
CZ SP-01 Come on CZ, make an SS one!
CZ P-01 steel framed if possible
CZ 97B

Wnchester/Marlin/etc lever action in .357
AK rifle.

I have a feeling in a few years, they are going to be goooood trading stock.

My downfall is that we live about 30 minutes from Aimsurplus.
