Its funny but I have been purchasing firearms and ammunition for many years now and while at one point I had tons of fiirearms but now i find myself selling firearms to by large quantities of ammo. A firearm without ammo is useless and it really makes me miss the old days of $25 7.62NATO battle packs. I think that the cost of thing may price me out of buying "new" firearms in the future. And ammo has more than doubled in a few years. Makes me wonder what may come next all I can say is I plan on weeding out guns for more ammo.

Brother in Arms

I hear you Brother.

I've got my bases covered with a 12ga pump, AR, .22lr rifle, and handguns in .22lr, 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP... I'd really love to add a 357 revolver, 30-30 lever gun, 308 bolt gun, AK47, AR carbine (mine's a 20"), etc. etc. etc...

But I'm getting to the point where I'm trying to make wise investments with my money. I absolutely love shooting my AR, shoot it twice for every time I shoot all my other guns COMBINED... and I've realized - I don't NEED another rifle, let alone another handgun... but I do need ammo and other gear that I'm starting to feel is a necessity.

Maybe one day I'll have a stable supply of ammo for all my guns, more than I can shoot in a year, all the accompanying gear that I feel I can carry / would need, enough money to invest in new firearms, and be ready to shoot something other than the trusty AR...

But until then, new guns are just not a top priority. I even got permission from the wife to buy a new Kel-Tec PF-9 but have decided against since it's winter coming and I can just wear heavier concealment garments with no real loss of comfort OWB for my P2000. Now THAT is committment to not expanding a collection!

ETA one thing I AM investing in is upgrading the guns I've got now. Little things like replacing cheap QD mounts with Larue ones (NOT the scope mount - that's already a Larue ;)), or fixed sling swivels with detachable ones for my Tactical Intervention Quick Cuff sling so I can take it off and just use the Single-Point if I want... I'm trying to get my AR up to the highest level of performance / functionality possible... so I am spending my money on improving what I've got :)

I whole-heartedly agree. I believe in less guns, more ammo. I usually try to consolidate calibers as well.

The way I see it is that when the SHTF, I may only be able to leave with what I can carry. So, having a massive arsenal in the safe is not going to help if I can only carry one pistol and one rifle. Not to mention having to "know" all of those guns intimately.

I only own 2 rifles, 1 shotgun, 1 air rifle, and 5 pistols. It is more than enough. I have seen guys with more than 50 guns in their cabinet. All I can ask is, why? They have so many, they can't even keep them zeroed, clean, ect. Let alone feel comfortable with each of them.

I like to have plenty of ammo though. You can never really have too much of it.

Since I now live in the "place" to go to, i don't see a reason to limit the number but I have been consolidating calibers and buying componets for only .22 and .30 guns.

I have a bunch of lead and molds for any other calibers I happen to have. I really need more .22 rimfire though.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm lucky though. I've been balancing guns/ammo pretty well. If I ever move? It's a good thing dad has his CDL.

There are some guns I only keep a littlde ammo for, and only shoot a little. The flip side are mostly miltary calibers, lots of ammo, lots of shooting.

The key is balancing your gun/ammo ratio for your personal tastes/needs.

DW and I just had this discussion, We'd like a few more guns but we'd rather concentrate on ammunition and extra magazines for the guns we have right now.

More guns can wait for better ecnomic times

Some New Calibers are Tempting!

Especially in .30 caliber Magnum offerings! My son lusts after a lefty .300 WSM that he cannot afford just yet or for awhile down the road. Being left eye dominant can be an expensive pill to swallow. He scoffs at my .243 Winnie Pooh's prowess! I can, however, handload cheap or expensive bullets for range practice or severe, extreme hunting scenarios, so I'm not ready to blast into the purchase of a hyper-caliber I don't truly need. The American economy is not currently sound enough to plunge money into a bigger bullet, although I could always "CHARGE IT!" cliffy

Collection: an accumulation of objects gathered for study, comparison, or exhibition or as a hobby.
Different streaks for different freaks .... 50 guns? Is that all? ;)
Heck I also own over 1,000 slot cars....I can only race one at a time....but it's a collection (and a small one!).
I'm one of the many folks of whom you wonder "why". But I try to keep firearm, muzzle loader, and airgun acquisitions to a few main caliber/cartridges and stock up on those. These days, I find myself shooting the .22 rim-fires more than anything else.

50 guns? I know a lot of people that have way more than that. They say they are shootable money. One has 4 .50BMG's

I try to stay sensible. 2 guns for every caliber and enough ammo to use them.

I've got too many guns and almost enough ammo. The trouble is, I have 14 various calibers and my ammo inventory is getting to be complicated!

I reload so I have drawers and drawers of brass in various stages of 'used-up', i.e., some has been shot once or twice while others have been shot 8-12 times and it has to be separated and inventoried.

My thoughts have been drifting toward getting rid of at least half of my calibers. Do I really need .22LR, 9mm, 45ACP, .38Spec., .357Mag. & .380ACP in my various pistols? No. I might get down to just the .380ACP and my .45ACP. That would free up several drawers.

Do I really need .270Win., .30-06Springfield & .30-30Win.? No. My .270Win. (Rem.700) is very accurate and well set up.

Do I really need .22LR, .17HMR, .204Ruger, .223Rem., .22-250Rem., .223WSSM, .243Win or .25-06 ?? No....... but I can't part with the .204, .223Rem., .22-250 OR the .243Win. They're just too damned accurate and fun to shoot!!!

Oh well, maybe I'll just keep them all.:neener:

You should be able to carry at least six pistols and a couple of long guns if they have slings. Think layers.

Sorry, I just got this image of Neo from the Matrix walking around with 8 guns strapped to his body :p With 8 guns and one magazine per each :barf:

If I ever have to abandon ANY of my guns, I assume I'm going to need to take some things to eat, wear, stay dry with, etc., in addition to some extra magazines and ammunition. One rifle (RIFLE, not shotgun) and MAYBE 2 pistols max... but probably just one. Anything more than that, to me, is to reverse priorities.

Nah, keep 'em.

Handgun wise wise I've got a dozen or so calibers, with rifles the same thing. Shotguns? 12, 20 and 410.

Some I have multiples of. I most likely missed a few calibers without looking in the safes, but you get the idea.

Thing is, guns are my thing. Someone else may be into other things(girls and thier shoes for instance). It's all a matter of personal choice. If it isn't causing you financial trouble? Who cares.
