Have any of you noticed the increasing trend for men to act like "gunshoppe Divas" lately?

I'm talking about all of the guys at the gun store who will look at you side ways and say you're dumb if you mention any other brand of wheelgun than S&W. :D

Same guys that can't say 5 words without quoting a famous gun guy.

Hahah, I think the cure for this is to give these guys hugs, because they so badly need to fit in. :C

I love getting good advice, but these guys are just a thorn in my side because they simply regurgitate what they read in gun magazines, without any personal experience.

My brother likes to call some of them "Google Scholars". :)

Young grasshopper, be an empty cup.

Most gun magazines are only good for looking at the pictures, and specifications on the gun.

Then you have to put in the time online to find out how much they suck or not.

If they have not "owned it" and "fired it" their opinion of any gun means very little to me.

I dont care what their friend's friend said Joe's cousin thought about a certain anything.

Joe Blow from "experts R us" are a dime a dozen. Give me a guy that got up early Saturday morning and went out and gave it his best with the gun. His opinion is the one I want.:D There is no substitute for "hands on" experiance.:neener:

I agree with ScotZ, their opinion means nothing if they don't own or have shot a 1000 rounds throught the gun. Opinion's from gun writers are the worest. They are givin the guns from the manafacture to test, most won't say anything bad because they don't want to upset the manafacture and not get the next toy to play with.

No, they don't want to fit in. They're SPECIAL. They're smarter and better than the rest of us.

Plus, most of 'em are pretty unattractive specimens, so I'll pass on hugging them

I am SO stealing that. I deal with these guys all day long. I was in the music business for awhile, and a guitarist told me how to spot other guitarists in the audience: they're the ones standing with their arms folded over their chests grumbling, "I can do better than him."

Of course, they're in the audience, and not on stage.

One thing I've noticed about the Google Scholars is that I NEVER see them shoot. They're full of "advice," some of which is certainly dubious, but they never seem to put their money where their mouth is.

(And, yeah, I've invited them. They always have some excuse not to.)

You might ask them to show you what they mean. I bet you they have an excuse why they can't right now.

Funny

Hey there:
This is funny.
I run into this all the time. I have fired hundreds of thousands of rounds in competition shooting , testing rifles , and shooting P-dogs and hunting.
Ya go in a gun store and some old fart or some young guy tells ya how it is.

That is why the floor is always so slippery in there. they are so wet behind the ears they are still dripping.

Hahahah, I had a guy in my chem lab tell me how bad Kimbers were after I mentioned to my partner I'd just bought one.

He proceeded to say that he'd seen so many with this or that, and such and such.

I then asked him if he'd ever held or fired a kimber... you know what the answer was.... He didn't even own a gun.

Agreed. Gun rags are good to see whats new, and to be entertained, but for the real scoop, I come to the people of THR and TFL.

The ones that kill me are the range divas. The guys who tell you that High Powers are obsolete, or that 1911s aren't very reliable, or how much SIG has gone downhill in recent years (???)... as he stands there shooting, not very well mind you, his Star.

funny...
I do my own research via the internet. If I like what I read I will rent the gun at the local range.

The 21 year old experts at Sportsmans Warehouse are an excellent example of this. I love to let them ramble on and when they wind down i say; Ok, now that you have told me everything you have been told, tell me how much you have personely experienced with this particular design, make, model, caliber. The response most often is: uuuhhhhhhh!

I must be weird I don't hang out in gun shops. I'm one of those who HATES to shop for anything, I walk up to the counter buy exactly what I came there to get and leave.

Had a gunsmith try to tell me what a worthless caliber the .17 Rem is, just prior to mentioning that I own one and have shot tons of praire rats with it out to 400 yards and been able to watch them explode through the scope on 16x because there is no recoil. That was the end of the conversation.

I make a concerted effort to differentiate between opinion and fact, and personal experience vs. campfire talk when handing out advice on any make/model.

I also have a lot of experience with this, Im kinda of a gun shop rat, and I see all walks of life. I listen and unfortunatly usually have to add my 2 cents about how far their "opinion" is from "fact".

My favorite is the guys who are disgusted by Glock, XD's or any other polymer gun. If I happen to be in the local shop on duty I like to point to my duty rig and let em see my Glock 35 (.357 sig conversion). I ask how much coffee has been spilled on their 1911 or how many times it was scratched up by a seat belt, how the finish holds up to holster wear?

I usually get an answer about accuracy at 100 yrds or something like that. I point out that a gun for me is a tool that gets carried everyday. 100yd accuracy w/ a handgun is an impractical use for the tool. I would use a different tool if I could, like say a rifle, carbine, or shotgun w/ slugs. This of course opens up the cops aren't very good shots debate and so on...

Maybe I just love conflict too much, its fun to kinda put em in their place in a logical way. Or is it that Im a DIVA too!

I think what he means is,100 yard accuracy is not a consideration when choosing duty gear. If you expect to make regular 100 yard shots,a handgun may not be the best tool for the job.

This doesn't mean that you can't shoot a handgun at 100 yards. I've hit milk jugs consistently at 75 yards with a 1911,and I've seen some old-timers make some pretty impressive shots with a .357 magnum at 100+ yards. I'll be able too shoot like them someday....:)

Have to deal with them in every shop.
The local shop has a couple of young guys behind the counter.
Each time I go in there I have to hear how much they know about whatever.
I just ignore them best I can and look at/handle/buy whatever I came in there for.
They're useless.
