I'm in Englewood for a couple of days on business, are there any good gunshops worth visiting around here? I'm looking for AR parts and accessories such as BUIS and rail covers.

Thanks!!

Rob

Prairie Arms located near the intersection of C-470 and Santa Fe. A "black gun" friendly business. Dr. Mike (owner) will take care of you.

If you want to do some shooting, there is a gun shop/range in Englewood near SantaFe and Dartmouth. They have a decent range and a few guns for sale and rent. I think the store is called "Shootist".

The best gun shop that I know of is Dave's Guns on Parker Road in Aurora (just east of Denver). Good selection and knowlegable staff. Not sure about AR parts.

Dave's gun and police supply is sadly no longer in business. He closed his doors for the last time on Oct. 13th, 2007. Rob's guns, also located on Parker Rd closed up shop some time ago when I wasn't looking. In conversation with Gina, a proprietor of 5280 Armory (www.ak-47man.com) at last weekends gun show (and they are very black rifle friendly and carry NFA stuff as well) I discovered many of our local family owned gun shops have gone under and the prospects for the future are dim as well.

Green Mountain Guns, in the shopping center NW of 285 (Hampden) and Wadsworth.

I found Prarie Arms but they were closed today, I might try again tomorrow. 5280 Armory's phone recording says that they will be closed until Friday.

Any other places that I should try? NFA places would be cool since I'm also looking for a 7 inch 9mm AR upper.

When I was there in 1999, there was a shop in Arvada that was mostly reloading supplies. I actually brought home an RCBS single stage press in my luggage!

I visited several shops but I couldn't recite names to save my life today.

My 2 coppers..

Dave's needed to go out of business.... too many people walking out gingerly after the royal pounding if they actually bought something there at their prices.

Have never purchased a gun at Dave's... thankfully. If you did, you have my sympathies as well as a tube of Preparation H.

Green Mountain Guns at Hampden and Wadsworth is the best gun store in Denver Metro. They have the best selection of used guns and a friendly staff. They are good guys to deal with. For new guns, Sportsman's Warehouse is not bad, although they did not have the PX4 storm I was looking for last week.

5280 Armoury is a good place, but only open weekends lately. They are good people and have good prices and a goodly selection of guns. They are up north of I-70 and Wadsworth about 15 blocks east in an industrial area, hard to find, but worth it.

Jensen's, in Loveland is another great place, lots of black guns, suppressors, all the fun stuff.

Grampa's pawn in Longmont is laughable. Don't go in there unless your eyes like to bug out from the prices. They almost make Dave's look reasonable.

If you can make the trip to Loveland, Jensen's would have the ar-15 parts you would need. If you go, stop by in Longmont, and Ill go... There is a suppressor up there just aching to be owned by me.... (sigh)

Oh, and if you are looking for short uppers... They carry the LM&T line at Jensen's. Ask me how I know... Ask me how much of my money Bob has....

Thanks for the help guys. I made it out to Prarie Arms before I came home. Frankly, It was a little odd. Not a bad place, just strange that most of their AR accessories were not the "caliber" hehe, that I wanted. As in, they have a wall covered in CAA stuff. On the other hand, they had some Elcans peaking out and a decent stash of Colt rifles. I would have thought that they would have had more quality accessories for the Colts. They had a good selection of used pistols and if I could have walked out of the store with a Beretta 96 Border Marshal and my Oklahoma DL, I would have. I travel for a living and I buy long guns from time to time when I am out of state and getting them home is as simple as loading them on to the plane. I can't see why I can't buy pistols without having to have them shipped back to my dealer, which is usually more pain than it is worth, like today. What makes it silly is that I walked into the shop with a pistol (two actually), why can't I leave with another? Anyway, that is a complaint for another time.

Back to Prarie Arms,

Nice guys and very helpful and friendly overall but I had to snicker under my breath when one of them scolded another customer for dropping the slide on a Kimber Aegis. He pointed out that the slide lock is not a release. I agree completely and the other customer did not seem offended by the lecture.

I'll try some of the other shops the next time I am in town. I do spend more time in Aspen though, does anyone know of anything around that part of the state? Besides hippies, money, and bigger money?

Thanks,
Rob
