My first time to go visit this biggest army base in the continental United States while on our way to Austin. My plan is to see the Ist and 3rd Cavalry Museums which are free to the public. After which i may go find some gunshops in the area.

Any recommended places to check that has lots of new and used neat stuff? I m looking for used smith and wesson revolvers and surplus rifles.

Some thoughts

Both of the museum's are great.

Gunshops in the area are good but elevated prices seem to be the norm. Everything tends to be a bit over the price that I'd be comfortable paying. When I go to purchase a firearm, I frequently go down to Austin as there's better pricing, availability, and better customer service. (I can also hit other things with the wife and dogs and make a day trip of it)

Guns Galore on S. Fort Hood St. (195) has a wide selection, new and used with pretty friendly staff. Prices are high for the area, but they have the best selection in town.

Past that, JT Sports in Copperas Cove (a bit further out of the way) is pretty good. After that you have the various pawn shops in the area. Not sure of any others.

I've lived in the area for the past 4 years, and have been in the above referenced shops on more than one occasion.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Guns galore, the shop that the media highlighted over both ft hood shooters. I served in Iraq with the owners son. Owner is prior service too. Your probably not gonna find collector type stuff, but you'll get to see the "evil gun pushers" the media likes to mention for yourself

Thanks. Im bringing the kids to see the static displays. This is going to be exciting . Oh yeah right in the heart of Texas !

I went to guns galore and they have plenty of guns to boot. In fact there's too little room to manuever for customers to move. The prices are high as already mentioned.
The one guy who showed me the guns was nice but seems to have an attitude to insult customers when you asked questions. Once I returned the gun after handling it I left right away. LOL
