Just thought I'd praise the wonderful sport of hockey for its contributions to the gunsmithing trade. Two products I like to use as I mentioned in a recent thread:
Hockey Puck: It's hard rubber. Use it to back-up parts you have to pound on. Use the side of it as a makeshift mallet. Drill holes in it for driving roll pins, staked pins, etc. Acts as a backup when installing and removing dovetailed sights.
Hockey Tape: Many use electrical tape. That's fine, but electrical tape leaves residue and breaks down rapidly when exposed to solvents. There are many uses for hockey tape. You can coat parts that you intend to handle a great deal to prevent handling wear. You can isolate the area you are working on to prevent damage. You can hold parts in place temporarily. You can use it on scope rings to prevent damage to scopes. You can use it on shotgun barrels and magazine extentions to prevent marring. You can place it between side-saddle shell carriers so that they don't mark-up the receiver. You can also wrap it around grips and stocks for a down-and-dirty quick grip enhancement.
Any other uses or cheap tricks?
