I was really disappointed to find out that Guntalk is no longer broadcast on Sirius Radio. I only chose Sirius over XM because of Guntalk and NRANews. I dropped an e-mail to Sirius at [email protected] and voice my displeasure.

Yeah. I guess that's due to the merger of the 2 services. Duplicate programming is being done away with, at least that is what I got out of this:
Will I continue to enjoy my current programming after the merger?
We will combine programming where we overlap, but the unique XM shows you love are here to stay.

Gun Talk is on XM channel 166.

Tom is a member here at THR, maybe he can tell us why it was removed from Sirius.

I just received an e-mail from the NRA less than a week ago offering a 15% discount on Sirius and talking about "Guntalk". Glad I didn't take that offer......

The only problem with Gun Talk on XM is that, unless it's been changed, they play it a couple hours after it actually airs. I like to sometimes listen to it and log into the chat room and that makes it a bit annoying.

I wrote to Tom earlier today and he doesn't know why it was pulled from Sirius. I don't think it has anything to do with the merger talks. I don't think they are anywhere near comparing programing. If we allow it to be taken off the air unchallenged that's like giving in with out a fight.

If you we going to sign up to Sirius and didn't, drop them a note and let them know why you didn't shell out your hard earned money. If you subscribe to Sirius drop them a note and let them know how you feel.

Bob

Cancellation confirmed.

I just sent an email asking for confirmation that Gun Talk has been cancelled and stated I intended to cancel if it were indeed true.

I got a fast reply confirming Gun Talk was gone and called Sirius to cancel the two subscriptions.

It should be noted that I've never listened to Gun Talk... I never knew it was there... mostly because I listen to Sirius *maybe* 10 minutes a week. Canceling has been on my to-do list for a while, and the Gun Talk issue made me stop putting it off.

I've noticed the audio quality has been steadily declining -- I can only imagine Sirius is mucking about with the compression ratios on certain channels to make room for more content. It seems everything I listen to sounds like poorly encoded MP3's, which drives me crazy. It's gotten to the point to where FM actually sounds better.

Had I known Gun Talk was there, I probably would have listened to it. Now that it's gone, I can't....so yeah, I canceled because Gun Talk got taken off.

Steve

SIRIUS Satellite Radio, The Best Radio on Radio

When XM tried to cancel Opie and Anthony, several thousand fans cancelled their subscriptions. It got so bad that XM offered up to 6 free months to keep your activation. After 30 days off, they finally came back on last Friday. Satellite radio relies on subs, not advertisers. If you can organize something like that with fellow Sirius subscribers, you might get it back. Maybe similar to the Jericho "nuts" campaign. Both O+A and Jericho have message boards that kept up the "assault", I don't know if there is one for Guntalk. Good Luck.

Ah . . .

First, Sirius pre-empted "Tom Gresham's Gun Talk" for football. Then the pre-empted it for NASCAR.

I get the impression that the folks there think, as many in the media do, that gun owners are a tiny slice of the population, and don't realize how many people own guns.

Finally, they dropped the show altogether. No, I don't think it has anything to do with the merger, if that actually happens (still not a done deal).

I do think that Sirius will reconsider if they hear from a bunch of listeners who want to hear rational talk about gun ownership.

Feel free to cross-post this.

Sirius also dropped c-span radio...good grief.

Americans would learn more from listening to a few hours of c-span covering an agronomics committee meeting than in a years worth of pseudo news drivel.

Broadcast media base programming decisions on the ratings from the 19-35 year old segment of the population.

Many TV shows with SKY-HIGH overall Neilsen ratings have been dropped because they performed poorly with the 19-35 year old segment.

Apparently, that's where the money is. (At least for the sponsors)

I get guntalk locally on FM 99.1

They have a catchy commercial.
"protecting your 2nd Amendment with the 1st Amendment"

Gotta love Reno!

Isn't that the truth! I learn more from C-SPAN, NPR, and "The News Hour With Jim Lehrer", than I do from all the major news networks combined!

In regards to the cancellation of "Guntalk," does anyone know if perhaps an anti-gun bias forced it's cancellation?

>In regards to the cancellation of "Guntalk," does anyone know if perhaps an anti-gun bias forced it's cancellation?<<

I don't think so. Just a programming decision, I think. That's why I have the feeling it can be reversed.

Of course, the show is still available on XM, on broadcast stations, through live streaming, and through podcasts from the website and Apple iTunes.

Then the pre-empted it for NASCAR

Since NASCAR has its own channel, that doesn't make sense.

Was Gun Talk not part of the Patriot channel lineup?

Looks like they have reruns of Cigar Dave. Not something I would consider part of a patriot channel lineup.

Yes, it was. But, on Sunday, Sirius pre-empts a lot of the talk channels for sports.

If gun owners and activists respond (politely), there's a good chance we can get the show put back on.

It has proven to be a good way to reach people who are on the fence about gun ownership, and to show them that we are, in fact, the reasonable people in this debate.

I have Sirius and used to listen to Guntalk and Cam and Company NRA News all the time. Then they moved Cam to 9pm from 3pm and started cancelling Guntalk for the NFL and the NASCAR driver's channels during the races. I love the NFL so no problem there, but why can't they put the extra NASCAR crap on the useless Weather/Traffic channels that 90% of us don't ever use?!?!

Now to hear they actually cancelled Guntalk all together?!?! I still love Sirius but man this is disappointing! Who should I call/what email address do I complain to?

I just found this out and I can't get any of the stream to work on my PC. Damn this is depressing.....

Any word on why it happened?
