I've had a gun vault bedside safe (lockbox more accurately I guess) for a few years now. After purchasing it I saw posts here about some concerns with this company, (1) a design weakness that would disable opening the safe via the keypad (2) poor customer service.

Well, the design flaw caught up to me yesterday and the safe doesn't work except with the key.

However, they seem to have improved their customer service. Talked to the dude on the phone. He asked for the serial number and confirmed this was during the "problem era." Apparently there has been a redesign. They are sending me a new one, along with a shipping label to return the one I have.

Since I knew there were previously "issues" with the company that people had posted here I thought I would put their improved attitude on record :D
 
My GunVaults were very nice until they started sucking all the life out of the 8(?) batteries, each, within 1-2 months rather than a year like they are supposed to.

Once they became flaky, to operate them safely on batteries, I would have had to replace the batteries every month.
 
If yours is an older one and does not have the code set button, can you tell me how to change the code from the factory default?

I lost my manual and don't remember how to change the code.

I've tried to contact them a few times with NO luck.

Waumo, I don't think mine is that old. If I remember correctly, it has a button in the inside that starts the code reset process. I will check this and let you know if there is something different.

GBExPat, he did want to know the serial #. Apparently there are some ranges of serial numbers they are responsible for and others they are not. I guess the company must have changed hands. Anyway, you are supposed to be able to get the serial # from the bottom inside under the foam liner - and hopefully it will be one of the "right" numbers.
 
Try A Screwdriver top center door. One little push and the door will pop open.
I don't think my lock box is very safe.

The company did change hands in about 2002, IIRC. Unfortunately, my two are from the year prior so even if they are not covered like yours, perhaps "new" owners will be able to offer a fix that won't cost too much.

Hum, mine isn't eating batteries yet....is that something that just happens with certain individual boxes, or do they all eventually start doing that?
