I have been loading 357 Mag, 44 Mag, and 454 Casull, for many years. I can't remember using any powder other than H-110.
Recently I had the opertunity to pick up some Lil Gun, for a very good price. I was wondering if anyone here uses Lil Gun, and how does it stack up to the H-110.

I use Lil'Gun for heavy bullet loads in .357 Magnum. I only use it for the 185 grain bullets, though. It really shines with the heavier bullets, but isn't that great with lighter ones. I'm also going to use it for some .38 Super loads, since the data looks really good there, too.

Hope this helps.

Fred

LIL'GUN is allot like H110/W296.

The LIL'GUN pressure is lower in publications and MAY be lower in reality in some 357 mag 158 gr loads.

H110 smells better when burning.

'Lilgun has the advantage that with the bullets it's appropriate for, the pressures are considerably lower.

I use 17.8gr of LilGun under a Remington 158gr S.Pt for ~1450fps from my 4" Sec.6, and it gets 2,050fps from my Win.M94 w/20"bbl. Accuracy is as good as the guns are capable of. (2.5"@ 50yds for the Ruger, 2.5" @ 100yds for the Winny).

This load only churns up about 26,000cup, whereas the H110 about 40,000cup. In the rifle the velocity difference is close to 300fps higher for the LilGun, so there really isn't any contest with the rifle......

In the .22Hornet, again, there isn't anything currently produced that approaches LilGun with bullets 40gr and heavier. For the 33-35gr bullets, I still prefer H110, however. Still, good old 2400 approaches the H110 for accuracy and velocity with the 33 and 35gr pills.....

That 158 data is hard to believe, and harder when you see strain gauge measurements.

I am no big fan of strain gauge measurements for absolute accuracy, but side by side with H110, one amateur show identical pressure and velocity with LIL'GUN and H110 for velocity and pressure.

That LIL'GUN data seemed too good to be true.

The thing is, if I increase the LIL'GUN powder charge in 158 gr 357 mag from 18 gr to 26 gr, the recoil and noise go up, but the chrono go down. So there is some odd phenomena of fire ball burning going on there. Hodgdon may have got that data once, but might have a hard time getting it again.

GooseGestapo,
How's the accuracy with Lil'Gun? I've heard mixed reviews and I've had mixed results. I'm wondering how your rounds did...
