H.R. 1096: To restore the second amendment rights of all Americans

Supporting 1096 will probably make more of a difference in Washington than opposing 1022 will. 1022 has no co-sponsors and a small chance of even reaching a vote. But I don't think 1096 could get very far with sections 2 and 4. It's just too easy to attack those proposals.

Sorry guys, but our opportunity to pass pro-gun stuff is over because a lot of traitorous gun owners thought that the Democrats who said they "believe in the 2nd Amendment" which is a vague meaningless statement, would be pro-gun once in office. Now, with all the most extremist gun-hating thugs as committee chairs, there WILL BE NO PRO GUN LAWS. Get that in your brains.

Dont tread on me: dont forget to add the traitorous republicans in the mix.....lets be consistant.

Well after reading it I can say it doesnt have a snowballs chance in Hell. Perhaps they could work with the sporting purposes section, and waiting periods. No congressman is going to sign off on repealing background checks, or un-mandating gun locks. It just isnt going to happen. I dont think Paul put much thought into this one to be honest. I want to see him draft up some laws that will prevent any attempts at a AWB in the future. After that we can work on getting the 86 ban lifted, and one day perhaps the NFA act. I think trying to eliminate background checks is beyond a lost cause and frankly isnt one of the issues that should take top priority at this point in the battle.

I'm inclined to give him a little more credit. Maybe his plan is to drop sections 2 and 4 in exchange for getting other house members to support section 3. It is a common negotiating strategy to ask for more than you expect in order to get what you really want. Just doing away with the sporting use distinction would be a huge victory for the defenders of the 2nd Amendment. Maybe we should be lobbying the committee for just this kind of action -- pass it out without sections 2 and 4, and get the full House to go on record where it stands on the sporting use distinction.

When was the last time Ron Paul submitted a pro-gun bill and it hit the floor for a vote?
When was the last time he submitted a pro-gun bill? Several times a year for since he's been in, as I hear. So why didn't a GOP committee put it out on the floor?

Another reason why I love Ron Paul! He is the man!

Also, for whoever linked to govtrack, that is a FANTASTIC web site! I kept wondering how you guys kept on top of this stuff, and now I know how to stay on top of it myself.

For those who don't know, you can track specific politicians, specific bills, any new bills introduced, any votes, etc. & have them automatically sent to your e-mail. We should all sign up for this web site and monitor our government. Thank God for the internet b/c this was harder to do in the past. Now we have it automatically sent to us every day! :D

A well informed gun owner base is a good thing, and we'll use that info when we vote. It means we have to rely less on the B.S. politicians spew b/c we can see how they vote.

I see this bill doesn't do a thing about 922(o). Now, don't get me wrong, I would rather this bill get passed than die, but as far as "Second Amendment restoration" is concerned, it rings quite hollow.

The Republican controlled Congress stopped almost all the gun lawsuits, that threatened to destroy the industry, in their tracks. The Republican controlled Congress refused to renew the AWB. Does any here think that would have happened under a Democrat controlled Congress? Because some didn't get all that they wanted, then they take their ball and go home. Very helpful.

Just to update

As of 14 March, this bill has NO co-sponsors.:uhoh:

I'm thinking maybe we need to give 1022 a rest for about 30 seconds to let our representatives know or remind them that we'd like to see some support for this bill.

How come the AWB bills get all the attention from gun owners and not the good bills? You don't see this one on many gun boards just the AWB ones.

Usually we only hear about the bad ones, the bad ones seem to take precedence.

I'm all for that, I'm not that eloquent in my ramblings, so a nice form letter would be appreciated.

Well I thought I would bump this. I dont think it has any chance of passing but I like the idea that someone is sending shivers up the spines of Anti-gunners.

Oh and please dont blame gun owners who dont vote Republican. Its really not their fault that the Republicans lied to us and we refuse to vote for an evil. I am not even convinced that Bush is the lesser of the two evils now.

call your congressman. Let 'em know what we want. Oh and because it's the new trend on THR threads... [insert Republican bash/ Bush AWB conspiracy theory here]

Considering 1022 has 26 co-sponsors right now, I think it's a priority to email the congress people. It's a bit closer to going for a vote than 1096. In all reality, the same time you email about 1022, you should email about 1096 and get them both done at the same time. So instead of resting for 30 seconds, how about multi-tasking?
