A buddy of min is looking at an H&R 939 Ultra 22 L/S/LR that has two issues. He's hoping to get it cheap. One issue is the hammer sometimes won't drop (or drop normally). I think I have that issue diagnosed as the plastic part of the mainspring being broken. I've replaced that part on a 732 with one that has steel instead of plastic and never looked back.
the second issue is the presence of a lock. I suppose a malfunctioning lock could be the culprit in the hammer fall. Either way, I can't find out much about how to disable the lock and the diagrams at Numrich aren't very helpful. I would think this is a simple removal but i can't be sure. Does anyone know if it is a simple removal?
I found one post on Gunboards that asks how to install the lock as the one the person inherited came with the box and the lock was still in the plastic bag inside the original box. Leading me to believe that the lock was user installed if they wanted it. Sio it seems it should be user 'uninstallable'. Just hoping someone has experience with it.
Apparently H&R was ahead of the curve on gun locks. it appears it was introduced in 1958/59. It would have to go cheap for him to buy it. But with an advertised 'issue/problem' I suspect it will.
Thanks!
