H&R buffalo classic

I currently own and shoot a buff classic. The rear factory sight isnt going to work, simply because its not a long range sight. I purchased a pedersoli long range creedmore sight at cabelas for around $200. You will be limited to how you can mount the sight, because there is no tang, and you have a bolt going through the wrist. I took my reciever to work, with the stock attached. I basically set it up in a vertical mill, and edge found to center. With a small machinists level, I made the wrist wood behind the reciever parallel with the table, and I drilled the hole pattern for the sight on top of the wrist. I used a new 2 flute 10-24 tap, and carefully taped threads in the wood, being carefull not to drill to deep and hit the hole through the wrist. The sight base didnt quite match the contour of the wood, so some fitting was required to get the sight to set square. Then I used a small amount of acraglass on the base and the two 10-24 socket head cap screws(1/2"), and perminately mounted the sight base. Since we are mounting to wood, the epoxy makes the mounting stable, you dont want it coming loose or any movement:eek:   It sounds like alot of work, but the installation took around 45 min. Any competent gunsmith could do this. The front sight is o.k., though pedersoli front sights have more inserts to work with:scrutiny: The gun only weighs around 8 lbs, so you might want to add a stock weight or reciol reducer. This lighter gun wont be as stable as a 12 lb high wall, but you will be suprized how well they shoot! My current loading is as follows: Remmington brass, Federal #215 lg mag rifle primer, 60gr ffg, .030 vegie fiber wad and a Montana 480 gr Schmitzer bullet. You'll laugh your:D off, cause ya can hit clay pigeons at 300 yds all day:evil:

A poster described a ladder sight that was designed to fit his H&R Buffalo Hunter Classic and worked perfectly with his factory front post sight insert out to ~1000 yards. He said that he removed the Williams rear peep sight and the 2 screw holes lined right up. He indicated that the sight was made by Smith Enterprises.
Although I'm not exactly sure where he bought it, this may be the one that's "exclusively" available from Brownell's, but it's listed as being out of stock. Contact them for more specific info.:

What I believe to be the correct Smith Enterprises website doesn't list the product either, but here's their contact info. to inquire about it:

H&R Sights

When I bought my H&R Buffalo Classic ...I was very disapointed with the sights ..it might as well came with out sights ..I was planning to use the rifle for hog and deer hunting in the dark woods ...all I could find to replace them were the Hunt and Wesson screw on sights that would fit it at a cost of 139 bucks ...so here`s what I ended up doing ..I had an old Thompson 50 cal muzzle loader with sights I really liked , and fitted them on the H&R ..drilled one hole in the sight base to make the 2 screws line up ...no problems killed 2 hogs in deep woods in LA. last month with it . Happy camper with the H&R now .
By the way a .405 gr bullet on top of 65 grs of 3f goex black powder / hits a wild hog like a thunder bolt .
