Well, don't get your hopes up. Just saw a picture and writeup in their 2004 catalog. Interestingly, it has good American walnut stocks and a 5-shot magazine. So, 870 barrels won't fit. It doesn't use remchoke, but they are interchangeable. I was somewhat enthusiastic, but then I saw a closeup of their trigger group. YEP, says "Made in China" right there. Darn. And I was hoping for some of that legendary H&R Quality. :uhoh:

I saw one just last week. It is made in China.

The wood was gorgeous, I'm not kidding, beautiful grain and well fitted. If I had to stake my life on it I would say the wood was fitted here. The gun appeared well made. The grooves on top of the receiver looked like they had been cut with a dull mill though, rough. The rest of the gun was well done, much better than the Hawk series of guns.

Looks like Norinco found a way around the import ban sooner than most expected. The examples I've handled look suspiciously identical to the 980 series Remington clones until recently brought in by Norinco. I'm sure someone could come up with an adaption to make 870 bbls fit, but weigh the cost of such a device versus the MSRP of the H&R clone that is within a few dollars of many Remington Factory bbls.

I got a mailer from Gander Mountain in yesterday's mail. There was a listing for a NEF Pardner pump shotgun.

Looked like an 870 to me....who knows, but I'd rather get one from the proper source for 870's....

Held One at Gander Mountain

I saw my first H&R pump about a month ago at Gander Mountain. Overall, looked like a nice pump except for the "Made in China" stamp. They sold that one, but have a second one in stock now. Both had/have nice wood. Much better than the comparable Rem 870. But is the beauty only skin deep??? I can pick up used Rem 870's here locally for $180-$190......think I'll stick with Remington on these pumps.
