Saw a rumor on another forum that H&R are all done now - all existing orders canceled.

Anybody able to confirm?

Bummer. Real bummer. As i recall, it ain't the first time. The revolvers bit the dust in the 80s or 90s. Now, the single shot shotguns, I guess. I guess folks just don't want a single shot, have to have back up rounds. I always considered hunting with a single shot a challenge, not a handicap particularly. H&R offered a simple, affordable, reliable way to get into the field. Lots of kids took their first doves with one.

Oh, well, another option lost.

I imagine it was hard to be competitive in the market with a US built single shot that was about the same price as the imported pump guns. Same with the rifles, with all the budget bolt action repeaters, a single shot is a tough sell to the average hunter. If they had continued the accessory barrel program, and made them drop-in like a TC rather than having to be sent to the factory for fitting, I think they would have been a lot more popular.
Kind of sad though. A lot of kids grew up learning to hunt and shoot with a single barrel H&R. I had one myself-purchased at Kmart for $69.

Well, I guess I'm different, but I never found hunting with a muzzleloader that limiting, let alone a single shot cartridge rifle. You only get one shot on a deer, normally. You have to make that shot count. One thing I regret is not getting a .45-70 H&R. That would have been fun to play with, especially with black powder. :D But, I guess I'm different. Everyone is going to the AR platform now days, firepower being so "necessary", they are willing to hunt with marginal calibers. Me, I'll take one .30-06 to 20 .223s every day and twice on Sunday. But, yeah, I'm different.

Oh, well, there's always Rossi.

To me, the H&R style shotgun is one of the most practical firearms you could have in your household. A non-gun person can be completely be instructed in their use is under 30 seconds, yet an expert can yield them with surprising efficiency. Using light loads for plinking or informal trap shooting, heavy field loads for hunting, or bulkshot/slugs for big game/defense, the H&R single-shot really shines for immediate multipurpose deployment. The other thing I REALLY like is the fact that the same shell can be loaded/unload "ad nauseum" without damage to the rim or hull- try that in the typical pump or semiauto.

I have made sure that my family will be well supplied with H&R shotguns for probably the next two generations, at least.

A real bummer! Alas I only have one of the later production ones. I note that it is stamped Ilion NY. Possibly a casualty of the showdown over the 'unsafe' act in New York state?

Currently bidding on an H&R in .357 on Gunbroker and it is the ONLY one on there.

H&Rs in certain calibers are getting very hard to find. If you want one in .500 S&W they have exactly one on Gunbroker :).

Just my .02,

According to my dealer rep they are simply shutting down the line for a move was all he heard. So it may simply be due to the fact the factory is moving from Illion to Franklin which is only 3.5 Miles away but still a major move because of all the machinery. He also said some models would be scaled back but he does not know which ones.

They will do the move in phases of course so this seems like a reasonable explanation for all the rumors.
