Greetings all,

New and first post so I apologize if this needs moved.

My dad just bought a H&R Handi-rifle in .243. w/ 22" Bull Barrel. Now, my dad never buys anything for fun, and those things are priced great. Problem is, the thing had lots of issues out of the box.

1. The stock was seated loose and crooked to the receiver. 2. The throat of the barrel was pretty far off from manufactures specs ( I forget what he told me, but it was significant.) 3. After maybe 10 rounds, the striker pin is not reaching the primers.

My questions is not really how to fix these (which is why I wasn't sure where to post this). I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with H&R on exchanges and returns and such. If it was one, maybe two problems, we'd try to fix them, as none of those things are unfixable (some fancy loading should solve the throat issue and a little sanding and glue should fix the stock).
But there's no reason someone should have to fix all sorts of issues with something straight out of the box. That's bad business and not cool in general. Imagine buying a brand new car and having to bolt in your drivers seat yourself, install the drive belts and replace the battery immeditaley.

So if anyone has any input on H&R's modus operandi, I'd appriciate any input or info. Curious as to what to expect.

I'm all about learning though, so if anyone has fixes for these issues and since this is the repair forum, I'm cool with any input on fixes for any of those problems just to keep this a legit discussion and not just me crying about it. lol.

It's hard to find complaints about anything other than accuracy on the internets about these rifles and the seem to have a good rep. So it's unfortunate, but I gotta ask.

Thanks much!

Ive sent in an H&R 20 gauge single shot to have a 12 Ga. Barrel fitted. Remington in Illion NY does the gunssmithing. They did a good job. It took a couple weeks. Contact their customer service and see what they can do. You can also buy other calibers for that rifle.

They should send you a box to mail it back, no ffl involved. While they have it have the trigger job done and get a different caliber fitted while it is there.
