I'm not sure if there is anybody out there doing it already but In the wake of the shut down of the handi rifle by H&R I'm assuming the barrel program is **** down aswell. I'm wondering if anybody will take up the task and start fitting barrels to receivers . I'm sure there is quite the market with these guns being around for so long. Anybody have any insight?

I've never seen any interest in aftermarket bits for the H&R stuff, based on the price point of the rifle itself.

An aftermarket Encore/Contender barrel will retail for $350-$500, which is more than twice the cost of the whole H&R rifle. I doubt that anybody is going to try to find a way to step in and make their barrels for half the cost....

Dandtcustombarrels- David White does some nice work on H&R/NEF rifles. He does not barrel them,I don't think anyone does as it would cost more than the host gun is worth. The work he does is called stubbing, and it entails threading the chamber portion of your barrel as a base to install an aftermarket barrel. This isn't cheap, but the results are very impressive, accuraccy wise.

H&R stopped the accessory barrel program at least a year ago. One of the main reasons that you had to send the guns to the factory for fitting was that it was possible to mount a rifle barrel to the shotgun frame, and firing that combination could grenade the gun in your face. I would assume any other company would want to do the same.
H&R apparently couldn't make money on the barrel program, and they already had piles of them ready to go at the factory. I can't see any aftermarket company being able to tool up to produce barrels, and install them for less than a whole new rifle would cost.
