H. Schmidt Model 21S FTF

Hi folks,

A coworker gave me his H. Schmidt Model 21S .22 revolver yesterday. It appears to be single action only. He said that he was experiencing a failure to fire on every fifth or sixth round and asked me to diagnose the problem. Well, I took a look at it and after dry firing several times, it looks like the hammer fails to make positive contact with the firing pin after the trigger is pulled. In order to get the hammer to fully rest on the back of the firing pin after pulling the trigger, I had to apply thumb pressure to the back of the hammer.

I surmised that the hammer does not complete its full range of motion upon pulling the trigger. I'm guessing that it may be a spring tension issue (mainspring), but I'm not certain. On a side note, the trigger pull is extremely light, in the neighborhood of one pound or so, and the trigger has a large amount of overtravel after tripping the hammer....

Anybody out there familiar with these revolvers or this particular condition? Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

I have one also and besides shaveing lead at the cylinder gap it dosn't turn the cylindar properly at each shot. I paid $65 bucks for it so am not to excited on ever getting it fixed.

I hear ya, Ken.

The one I'm looking at certainly doesn't seem to be the best quality, but I wouldn't mind knowing how to correct the issue its having.

On your example, does the hammer completely contact the rear of the firing pin after pulling the trigger?
