What velocity were you getting with the 25.5 gr of H335 and with what bullet ?
AR or Bolt gun ?

I'm loading 55's with 24.7 and need an idea of what speed it will get
Based on my tests.... 24.7 with a 55gr FMJ is going to be about 2650-2700fps... a HP will be a bit less

Well… It was another EPIC day at the Desert Range… Forecast was gunna be low 90’s, hottest in about 3 weeks…. But at 7am it was 59deg…. Just awesome…. I did try ta swim when I got home at 1pm…. Was 89deg out…. Ummmm…. Pool is a LOST cause till next summer… lady did take a swim but she is a lot tuffer than me… so the Pool cover has been removed…. And the Concrete Pond is just for looks for 6 months…

But I digress….

So after I got setup…. I started rd #2 of my H335 vs WC844 Testing..
I spent more time making sure the Powder drops where more consistent… It Paid Off… Drops on Both Powders where at 24.9 to 25gr’s
Also my chron was 1000% better…. Besides some Shooter errors in 1st 2 group… it performed perfect….

I am going to try my Cabela’s 6-18 scope next trip… It seems my Bushnell wont hold Zero in my travels…. Wonder if it’s the Soft case or Not…. So we shall see…

So here we go…..
I just did DTHP’s and FMJ-BT for this testing….
All 5rd Groups…. And 24.9gr of Powder.
Rested on Sand bags at 100yds
Chrono at 15’ away
Test weapon S&W M&P Sport 16” 1/8 twist ( remember most data in Books is 20” or 24” barrel Thus increasing the FPS)

H335 DTHP OAL 2.23
Rd1 Ave 2727 High 2798 Low 2622 (1 error, user error) Not bad accuracy.
Rd2 Ave 2741 High 2824 Low 2678….. All rounds shot Low… but good group
Total Ave FPS 2734

WC844 DTHP OAL 2.23
Rd1 Ave 2703 High 2748 Low 2651…Good Group but all Low…. Scope I think
Rd 2 Ave 2631 High 2673 Low 2552….Decent accuracy, still low Not bad
Total Ave FPS 2667

H335 FPS stayed pretty Consistent, the WC844 seemed a bit more erratic … accuracy was about the same….. H335 had about a 65fps higher Average

H335 FMJ-BT OAL 2.25
Rd1 Ave 2774 High 2843 Low 2691…. Not bad accuracy.. with scope shooting Low was a Good group on DOT
Rd2 Ave 2748 High 2766 Low 2732… Most consistent FPS yet… and very good accuracy, well, for a FMJ…
Rd3 Ave 2788 High 2895 Low 2722 … Not bad again
Total Ave FPS 2770

WC844 FMJ-BT OAL 2.25
Rd1 Ave 2685 High 2766 Low 2608….. Very Good Load… Very happy
Rd2 Ave 2723 High 2757 Low 2689… Good Load… Consistent FPS
Rd3 Ave 2669 High 2723 low 2595…. Not bad …
Total Ave FPS 2692

Probably the Best shooting with the FMJ-BT I have done… they do shoot higher than the DTHP’s by about 2”-3”…they also have a consistently higher FPS Than the DTHP’s as well…similarly the H335 is about 70fps Average faster…

After my 2nd Round of Testing….. I think what I have determined is that H335 and Surplus WC844 are very very similar…. H335 may be a bit more consistent as far as FPS is concerned, but powder drop could be effecting it some as well…
Yes H335 seems a bit Faster…. But as stated by others and Confirmed by my 2 Lots of WC844, the surplus WC844 varies more per lot than the H335
The Biggest difference is that All Printed data in the manulas are for 20” and 24” Barrels… and since my Sport is 16” thus the HUGE difference in Posted data vs My data……
Sure was fun doing the testing

I did the same & bought 6 x 8lb jugs a while back. All are from same lot.

I get very consistent results with it and notice no difference in groups - all else being equal - out to 100 yds. I notice no difference in chrony data that would be considered out of the ordinary for 2 separate lots of the same powder. My POI, fps, & groups are close enough to call the same with either powder.

I'm very happy with it. I'm not at max loads & use the 2 interchangeably. I don't do anything different switching from one to other. But now that I'm into the 2nd 8lb jug, I really don't reach for the H335 anymore & will probably sell the few unopened bottles I have.

If there was a surplus equivalent to Win231 & H110 I'd be all over those!

I applaud all of your effort running this comparison. Working up .223 loads has become somewhat of an obsession for me lately, I guess because of all the variations in bullets and powders it can keep a guy pretty darn busy.
I just purchased a pound of H335 and am wondering what primers you used in your work up's? Hodgson data show magnum primers for the 335.

Thanks,
Dave

Again, thanks for the work, but what you've done is confirm what is known- that a canister powder is more consistent than a surplus powder, and that not all lots of surplus powder are the same, or are as stable as canister powder.
Not trying to be a ******, but water's still wet, fire hurts if you stick your hand in it, and hens lay eggs.

Conservidave... i use CCI400 primers... work real well.. never have tried the MAG yet... myabe someday.
Ya I have at least 8 diff Bullets and now 4 Powders.... did some testing on CFE223 as well... There is sooo much enjoyment messing with This and That... thats half the fun:p

evan price... i appreciate yer not trying to be an #@$^%$ LOL.... If you read my original post... i was trying to determine IF H335 and WC844 where closer than any Posted Data I could Find.. It was A lot of Fun to do.. and had a BLAST doing it.. and if it dosent help or interest you at all... thats yer prerogative:)
Water is Not wet if ya dont jump in... and if yer DUMB enough ta put yer hand in Fire ya deserve ta get Burnt... and all the Hens on my barby dont lay any eggs

Just Saying

:D
