I loaded some 165gr .308 bullets with H414 just now. I'm using Hodgdon data with a load range of 48.0-52.0. The data doesn't say it'll be compressed anywhere, but it looks like 50.0 and up will be compressed. Has anyone tried this before? I haven't loaded many compressed loads and aren't too sure about it.

I don't personally load .308, but I do load a number of other bottle necks with powders that produce compressed charges. Basically, if I'm within the limits of the charge table, and I've worked up accordingly, I don't concern myself as to whether or not it's compressed. And again, if you've worked up, there is nothing to be concerned about.

dont know if you will even get 52 into the case. I think 50 is about it. My ar10 liked 50 obviously compressed with a 165 sierra flat base spitzer. shot that load into a 3/4 of an inch for 5 shots.

I shot 4-5 groups with 3 powders today. 50.0 of H414 was the second best, but it recoiled significantly more than the others. Made my Axis feel like an M44 Mosin. According to the load data, it's not above average in power either.
