Had a thumb safety installed on my G 27, best thing I ever did.

I would probably be ok with a GLOCK, but I like a heavier longer trigger pull if I'm going without a safety.... Like a CZ

Things get caught in triggers. Have you removed all the strings, zipper loops, and such from every jacket or vest you own?

Can you guarantee you won't try to holster with your finger on the trigger? Even experienced top flight competitors have shot themselves doing that, much less police officers.

Is an additional safety nice to have when your struggling in a gun grab? Lots of officers have NOT been shot with their own weapons because of it.

Does GLOCK offer a thumb safety on their latest pistol? Yes, they do.

It's not about "keep your finger off" for every situation. It's about "DON'T GET SHOT WITH YOUR OWN GUN."

I thank the OP for posting another available source of overall gun safety.

Never heard of it

I have Glocks catalog and they show nothing about any safety system like a thumb safety. I really think that is an after market thing.

I think the best safety around for the glocks is the sider lock trigger safety. Top quality, drops in, reversible for left or rightie and all metal construction but yet still retains the glock SAS. And tome where a safety should really be to.

have one on my sons glocl 19 and we love it,. no grip modifications needed.

I don't have a problem with the modification if you like it and it makes you feel better. I wouldn't do it, and I see it as totally unnecessary. I am in the camp that believes that proper gun handling and a quality holster are what is essential. I don't have a major problem with a thumb safety. Some will argue it adds an unnecessary step to using it. While this is technically true I would argue it is not a big deal at all given one is familiar with their weapon and practices. I prefer a 1911 to any of my DOA handguns and I manage to get the safety off just fine, why not in a glock? The only problem I see with a safety is if the user is relying on it to prevent a ND. Because one adds a safety doesn't mean they are relying on it but perhaps merely see it as an extra precaution.

In short, a glock doesn't need a safety. If it makes you feel better go for it, just don't rely on it and remember that gun handling and a good holster is more important. I would also advise against telling others that a Glock is unsafe without a safety, that is what seems to draw fire from glock fans (and anyone who uses a DAO) and for good reason.

Nothing should get caught in the trigger! Ever! You should have a holster that covers the entire trigger area.

Can I guarantee I don't holster the gun with a finger on the trigger? YES, I can. There is never a reason to holster your gun quickly! Train. The trigger finger isn't on the trigger unless you are shooting. Period.

" I experimented, and with the gun empty, I let it hang from my finger, kinda bounced it, and the trigger pulled, so I know a piece of shirt could make it do it, too.. " ~ Original Poster

good job on actually trying to replicate scenarios, i do the same and commend that type of thinking. however, i think the finger bounce and shirt tail are not fair comparisons.

i used to catch alot of crap when people found out i go holsterless with one in the chamber and have a 3.5 connector. several times, i have cleared my weapon, stuck it in my waistband and tried to dry fire it w/o going finger to trigger. i cannot.

i've also attempted to make my shirt/jacket tail fit through the trigger gaurd, then reholster (when using a holster). i cannot.

whoever mentioned all the shirt tail, etc, ND's. i just do not believe it. we had an ND in our Dept. and he was honest about his lack of trigger control. it happens and is almost always the cause of ND's.

ironically - I LIKE THUMB SAFETIES and think a Glock is a perfect cantidate for one. i wanted the Cominolli, but it's just a jagged little piece of metal that looks WAY out place and would hurt my stomach. if there was a safety like the EAA Witness has, i would install it in a second.
