Went to the local knife shop today and picked up an 18" cold steel latin style machete for $17. Brought it home, cut a couple branches (and a couple small pine trees) with just a couple whacks. For some reason, it had me giggling like a little girl. The edge that it came with was horrible. Looks like it was sharpened by my dog or something. This weekend I'll take my diamond stone to it and clean up the edge, and go play with it some more. Then I'll give a better review. So far, I'm happy with it. It wasn't bought for professional use, but for something I can play with around the house, and take camping with me.

I have the small Kukri. When I got it the tip for about 3 inches dident even have an edge. Locked it in a vice and took a rat tail file, diamond cards then Arkasas stones to it. Now the edge will at least chop. Its fun to have a beater that you can just swing at loose branches. IMO, for a company that boasts about its products so much, they could spend an extra minute making sure its actually sharp before it leaves the factory. Just me 2 cents.

Mine, the last half of the blade is horrible, and the first half is just dull. Taking it to work with me tomorrow to sharpen since it's going to be a slow day tomorrow. (I'm in the Coast Guard, so I don't have to worry about anybody panicking when I whip it out) But for $17, I got just what I wanted. Something that I can play with, and if I screw it up somehow, I'm not out much money.

Well, sharpened it up today, hand slipped and sliced the end of my finger pretty good. First time I've done that in a loooong time. Just as I expected, it works better now.

Cold Steel watermark

That it's their watermark cracked me up. Yes, I've had the same experiences with Cold Steel!
