Had some trouble loading .38 Colt Short...and it was Lee's fault

Well you’re no longer my idol then!

Actually I get it now— Testors plastic model cement fumes.
Not sure I could ever be anybodys idol so that’s a relief. I’m not sure if it was the glue or the modeling dope. Also used to build balsa wood airplanes and rockets.

While I love Lee dies, the one that I absolutely hate is their expansion/mouth flare dies. I tried using them for .32 and could never get the bullets to sit square and would get bulges and lead shavings. Only caliber I ever had success with the Lee expanders is .45.

I fixed the issue by getting Lyman M dies and was glad I did. Far superior.

OP, it may have just been a mistake at the Lee factory.

I don’t reload for the OP’s original caliber but I do use the Lee dies. I’ve not had this type of issue with either their expanders included with their pistol die sets nor the stand alone expander I use for 30-30. I shoot cast in 9mm, 38 Special, 357 Magnum, & 30-30. Some of those issues may be happening in terms of alignment but I haven’t seen any lead shaving. I’m not terribly picky so that stuff may be there. I just haven’t noticed. The Lyman M die was recommended but I already had the Lee expander on the way. I haven’t felt the need to upgrade yet but we’ll see how it goes.
