Hand Checkering

That Larry Potterfield really knows his stuff. I saw on Youtube where he checkered a rifle stock (forearm amd wrist) in 23 minutes. I recently got a beginner's kit of checkering tools and it took me three hours to do just one side of a one-piece revolver grip.:rolleyes:
 
if you did a good job of it then 3 hrs is not bad for your first time.

i have seen vids of guys that can skin and process a deer in less than 20 min.

it still takes me close to a hour to do same thing after 20 yrs.

checkering is not something i will try anytime soon.
 
Well, I didn't do a good job of it, but I finished the other side and have the grip back on the gun. I got the tactile effect I wanted, and will eventually make a grip from holly for this gun. With that one, I'll have to do a good job.

It's not beautiful, but the gun stays right where I want it. Much better than the original gloss polyurethane.
