Hand gun for the wife

A friends wife picked up a Bersa 380 (7 round). My wife held it and liked the way it felt so we bought the 15 round version. Since then 4 other people have bought one (15 round version), both men and women, and almost everyone that has shot it loves it. Out of all 5 there have been zero malfuntions with probably 5 or 6 different types of ammo. My only gripe is magazines are a little hard to find and the pistol only comes with one.

The Judge

Surprised no one has mentioned the Judge by Tarus. I know Tarus isn't a preferred manufact. by many, but my experiience with the judge has been nothing but positive. I was looking for a handgun for my wife for SD. She is not a shooter so my criteria was something simple to shoot, safe, and lethal. The first 2 pointed me to a revolver. The Judge offered the simplicity and safety and provided the punch desired with the 410 / 45LC loads. It is a point and shoot weapon that doesn't require pinpoint accuracy [for sure with the first couple of shoots] and a definite mankiller with the 45 HP.

I bought her the Public defender model which has a short snub style barrel in stainless. It is still a big gun with the 2 1/2 inch 410 cylinder, but still something that fits quite nicely in a purse and the PD has a bobbed hammer that doesn't snag coming out of a purse or pocket. It also has a smaller grip that fits her hand well. The special SD rounds in 410 were designed for the Judge and inside 15 feet are almost guaranteed to cause the bad guy some serious problems. I load it with 2 of the Winchester SD 410s followed by a 45 LC HP. It's a 5 shoot so #4 is another 410 and #5 is back to 45 LCHP. This gun is not for a fire fight, but for a female walking to her car or waking up with a bad guy coming into the bedroom, it will take care of business.

I have found that the Browning Hi Power seems to be very well suited to female shooters. That being said, my wife prefers a 1911 and my sister loves the Glock 19

I am always surprised how many people want to tell this woman what to carry.

The right handgun for the wife ... is the one *she* picks. not some guy on a board, not the husband who wants a new gun, not the sales person, not Santa Claus!

Come on folks! We marry these people! That means they're adults capable of making rational decisions. By law. Which *should* include going to a gun shop, reading the internet and making up their choice on what they want. They're about to enter the shooting world. It's not that scary. They don't need their hands held. We all somehow made it without being told what our gun ought to be. Give the person you supposedly love, respect and cherish the shadow of a doubt and assume they can make grown up decisions and yes ... mistakes, too.

Please don't tell me you buy their cars, too.

Maybe this is just the 21st century talking, who knows?

well these were suggestions, not MANdates just a suggestion, I have helped many women find something they liked, felt comfy with and those are extremely important reason to consider in buying a weapon, I dont believe anyone thought this would be binding on the OP to get these wepaons.
