Handgun finishes VS Kydex

I don't have a Kydex holster yet, but yesterday I put in an order for a FIST #1AK to go with the G27 I'll be picking up within a couple days. do the ordinary handgun finishes stand up to kydex holsters well?
ultimately it will only be a Glock in the holster, so I guess it doesn't matter that much if it gets some scrapes on the slide, but I really like to take care of my things and my guns are at the top of the list, even if it is just a generic and easily replaced glock I'd like to keep it looking new for as many years as possible, minus normal shooting wear.

The Glock should be fine in Kydex.

How could you hurt the looks of a Glock?????????? Honestly, I have seen a guy sharpen a knife on the slide of a Glock and then wipe it down and it looked almost like new. They are pretty tough.

Kydex cannot scratch your gun or knife anymore than a credit card can. There have been a number of folks that claimed Kydex to damage the finish
on their gun but further investigation revealed it not to be true. The
trouble is oil. Some guys gob oil on everything. Oil is a natural "magnet
to sand, grit, dust and dirt in general. Leather and nylon absorb these
things. Kydex will not absorb sweat, water or grit. If you put a grain or
two of sand between your gun and that same credit card, you can get
scratching to occur. If you keep your gun clean and dry it is not a
problem.

I carry my G30 in a Kydex IWB rig I made for it everyday, it goes in and out of the holster a few times a day and the finish is fine. Just keep the gun and holster clean, it's the crud and scratches your gun or knife inside the kydex.

yeah the glock should be fine in that holster, i look at it like this if there is wear on my gun, which is more form the amount of times i present the gun in training as opposed to ccw, that gives it character.

People continually claim that kydex is somehow harder than leather on a gun's finish. I guess this could be true for perfectly clean kydex and leather. However, the problem comes in when crud is introduced into the equation. Soft leather will have more contact with the gun, causing more wear than molded leather. Molded, smooth leather, kept clean, is just fine. Same goes with kydex...keep it clean. I have been using kydex for years for various pistols. For example, I have a SIG that has only seen kydex holsters. I have done thousands of draws and carried it for approximately one year. I cannot find any wear marks on it. I do see some kydex on the slide, but a brush picks it off.

It's not something to really worry about. If you have a gun that you intend to use for self-defense, then you need to be training with it. Part of that training will involve manipulations that use the gun rather than a second hand...scratches will occur...expect them.

If it's a collector's gun, then it should never go into a holster or be taken to a class.
