Handgun for wife - opinions?

The only thing that would be nice, if it works out, would be for both of you to shoot the same calibers of ammo. Just to make purchasing or reloading of practice and match ammo that much easier. But hey, if it doesn't work out that way it's not the end of the world.

DH and I tried this and if I didn't have a job that involves so much bending, stretching, and reaching or if I were willing to wear jeans for anything other than rough, dirty work it might have worked.

Of course its still fun to shoot my 9mm at the range.

In addition to all the wonderful posts so far, I have another question.

Is she expecting you to clean it after every range session? Or will you teach her to do that? For guns she needs to clean herself, a revolver (which doesn't need to be disassembled) would be at the top of the list. A Sig is very easy to field strip, so I'll agree with that choice on a semi.

Despite being flamed here, a 1911 variation with a single-action trigger and a moderate level of disassembly would not be my first choice.

No problem, as it would make sense to many but in my wife's case, being that she was not comfy nor liked DA/SA, especially DA pulls, but liked the SA, light, clean shots that followed, and that, at this low time with no bad habits formed, she fell in luv with the simplicity of the SAO, cocked and locked, w/2 safety's which she understood, trusted, adapted to, very quickly with the ease, for her, via same light SAO trigger pull, accuracy..

And it all blended via safety/rules, range time, with complete trust in the safety of the gun (any gun) and one's trigger finger being key as when not to and where it belongs, the same as when she knows she's gonna take a shot, or shots and when to use it - only then

But, I have to clean the gun, but she has to clear any jams..
