I recently went to the range with my cz. I noticed that im not quite as proficient as i would like.... I was shooting at a 8.5x11 paper target at 25yds and i put 3-4 within 3inches of the bull, but the rest were somewhere on the paper. I have never been good with autoloading handguns be it .22, 45, tok, or even .357 :p but I want to get better.

So my question is, how will i tighten these groups? I know practice is the answer but how. I cant afford ammo for my cz, and I cant afford a cheaper shooting gun. I dont believe my cz is to blame because the times i notice myself holding the steadiest and aiming better i hit where i aim. I do have a compact .22 handgun but im not sure how much that will help my overall proficency.

A few cz related questions,
First off, would a 9mm barrel be accurate and worth it?
My cz kicks like crazy and throws brass a mile away... I replaced the recoil spring with a 18.5 from wolff, same issue.
Is there any military ammo that is worthwhile for practice? All i have seen is the split case ones(cant remember country)

Thanks, any tips tricks or practice strategies are appreciated.

A 9mm barrel would be accurate. Unfortunately, they dried up years ago and you likely won't be able to find one. If you can, it would probably be cheaper to buy a different pistol.

Some CZ-52's have significantly larger bore diameters than they should have. They do better with reloads with appropriately sized bullets.

I liked the Bulgarian ammo.

"Other" than recoil management and target reacquisition, the 22 can be used to improve all the other basics.

I fully understand $ limitations, but a pistol better suited for range use (like 9mm) would let you shoot more for a lot less $. A "used" good condition 9mm CZ pistol can usually be found for very reasonable $ if you stay patient and persistent.

Used 9mm reloading equipment can be found the same way. The savings is $0, but you can shoot twice as much (or more) as buying factory ammo.

7.62x25mm ammo is really dirt cheap. Surely you can find a good source some where close to you. Around here 70 round box's go for $10.

As for the pistol. Make sure it's clean and lubed. The fire control system really likes to hide cosmo. This will make one hard if not impossible to shoot right. If it has the cast firing pin still in it. Don't dry fire it. $20 is well spent on a modern martial firing pin. Or multiple back ups of the cast pin. And dry fire it. The trigger should be like a switch. With a tad of clean up mines much like a S&W SA trigger.

The pistol really does not recoil that bad. Grip it high. Get the back strap close to the life line in your palm. Wrap the other fingers around the front strap with good week hand placement and fire away. Bench rest it if you have to. This will give you POA. If your barrel is shot out by a new one and fit it in.

If your pistol and barrel are in good working order 8" groups at 100 yours or better are quiet possible. Mines pretty good to 5" groups free hand out to 100 yards. I enjoy picking clays off on the 100 yard berm at my range. Mine is starting to loosen up a tad in lockup. About .002" as it sets now. There should be no slop there. So I either need to rebarrel mine or put a tig weld on the camber hood. Then refit the barrel and repark it. I like the fact that mine has matching s/n's so I may well rework the current barrel.

They are good shooters if in good condition.

Mine after it's initial rework. It now has smooth panels on it.

Rapid fire using Win Metric ammo. This was before the rework. Just cleaned up. No cosmo anywhere in the pistol with cast firing pin.

psyshack, Thanks for the info particularily on the grip. I gave it a try(didn't shoot yet) but it feels much better and i can hold much steadier. I am now thinking that my grip is probably my main issue, glad I know this now. I can even practice at home for free.
Also is The Winchester Metric 7.62x25 ammo decent? its clean, reliable, and exspenive from my experience.

Very impressive psyshack, I am looking forward to the day when I may achieve that kind of accuracy.
