I own a SW M&P9 with the standard dovetail sights.
According to http://pistol-training.com/archives/1361, my handgun is shooting "sight image 3" and I want it to shoot "sight image 2". I am much more familiar and proficient with this method, and I would rather not fix something that isn't broken.

Any advice on some aftermarket sights that might help? I would love to hear options other than the 3-dot system.

Thanks

Call S&W customer service and see if they have a shorter front sight available.

On fixed sight guns that shoot a little low, #3, I use #2 but lower the rear sight as needed (raise the front sight).
For instance I just bought a Ruger LC9. Using #2 the bullets strike about 1.5-2 inches low at about 10 yards. So I "favor" the front sight up a little.

An example is yesterday. On the top right target I leveled the sights in the bullseye, #2. On the other three targets I "favored" the front sight slightly above the rear sight (or lowered the rear sight a little, depending on how you want to say it).

BTW, I have almost 800 trouble free mixed rounds through the LC9 in 11 days.
Good gun.

I despise having to cover my target with the front sight. I would definitely pursue a slightly shorter front sight blade to get to #2.

Another thing to consider is that heavier bullets will print higher on the target. If you're shooting 115 gr., the gun may put 124 gr. or 147 gr. loads right into your desired point of impact without having to change anything.

I realize it would be hard to specify, but what would a ballpark be, as far as rise in elevation? From 115 to 147?
I could use 3" @ 10 yards. If I could come up with that amount I would have a much more natural 'to me' site picture.

How big is the point of impact shift at 10 yards if you just use sight picture 2 instead of the "drive the dot" method? With most of the guns I've shot, the difference in point of impact is near as makes no difference between sight picture 2 and 3 when you're really rocking the trigger and trying to hit A-zones fast at 10 yards and inside.

If you really want to change the sights however, the Warren Tactical series with a plain black front blade and a plain black rear sight is probably your best bet.

You might get your 3". It's hard to say. Obviously the best answer is to give it a try.
