Is there a difference in the background checks between handguns and long guns. I am in Ohio. I have purchased rifles in the recent past, but would like to buy a handgun. My Father in law just reminded me that in the 1980's while visitng him, I got a fishing violation, which I don't think I took care of, sooo, just wondring if I might have a problem. Thanks And yes I am going to see if I can take care of the ticket.

On the Federal level there is no distinction.
If you have a fishing license issue that will come up. You will be able to appeal it but might have to go through paper work. Best to get it taken care of as soon as it becomes a problem, if it really is.
