I'm primarily a handgun shooter. It's what I have the chance to shoot most, so I am more proficient with my 1911 than I am with a rifle. Then again, it's harder to become a decent shot with a pistol than it is a rifle.

OTOH I understand the need for long guns. If I hear a bump in the night I'll reach for my Les Baer Concept II. But if things get really serious I want a rifle. I recently had to get rid of my Garand and I'm already getting a bit anxious. I plan on picking up a replacement as soon as I get the chance.

Both! I have a thing for 20th century military rifles and carbines. If I had money to really "collect" firearms, it would be about 75% long guns.

I could LIVE with 2-3 pistols, as necessary tools. I wouldn't want to part with any rifle of mine and plan on falling in love with many more. :)

I am doubled up on long guns vs handguns at 12 to 6. Thank goodness since I was at 35 to 12 less than a year ago.
What was I thinking? Anyway I have decided to spend money enjoying shooting rather than collecting.

i have more handguns than long guns but i have long guns to so i am in the "both" category. i do need more rifles though!

I have about the same number of both. I have enough "modern" semi-autos in 7.62x39, 5.56 and 7.62 NATO to equip a squad sized unit with both long guns and handguns and enough others to satisfy my need for toys and variety.

Just a thought, you can shoot a .22LR rifle anywhere you can safely shoot a centerfire handgun. Most indoor pistol ranges allow rimfire rifles.

The range I shoot at will allow pistol caliber rifles to be used but it's only 25 yards. Good looking 10/22 by the way. I have also been looking at one of those.

I'm amazed there are places in America where people can't reasonably find a place to shoot long guns. Even a 10 mile drive out of the city ain't much for a day of fun shooting.

There is an unmanned range about twenty miles from me in a National Forest but a lot of shady people shoot there. Someone had a handgun stolen from them at this range about three weeks ago. There is another manned range about fifteen miles from me but their hours are such that I am usually at work when they are open.

I'll shoot anything. I'm death on flies with a rubberband gun!

Now, that's funny.

you cant just have one kind. I mean i knew of people that only had handguns. or only had rifles. Then i would go shooting with them they would try my stuff then they were buying other guns. For me there is 6 types of guns. I have 5 types

1 Black powder (pistol, revolver)
2 Black Powder Rifle ie muzzle loader
3 Black Powder Shotgun

4. Smokeless Shotgun
5. Smokeless Rifle
6. Smokeless Pistol

FYI all im missing is a Black powder Shotgun.

Definitely both.

Black powder revolver
Black powder scoped rifle
Cartridge rifle
Cartridge handgun.

FYI all im missing is a Black powder Shotgun.

Somewhere, resting on a store shelf, is a brand new Pedersoli Magnum double just waiting for a home.:D
