Greeting's All-

Curious, anybody got any just laying 'round collecting dust? We are talk'in
here mainly about handguns you bought on a spur of the moment shopping
spree, that for various reasons just don't see a lot of action. I have a few:

Excluding All Of The Colt D Frames~!:D

2" '72 model S&W factory nickel model 10-5
2.5" S&W model 66-4
2" 71 S&W model 30-1
2" 92 S&W model 37-2
6" S&W model 686-5
2" new S&W model 642
5" NIB Springfield Armory MIL SPEC
2" '79 S&W (old model) 60 .38 Special
Seecamp LWS-32 (ammo is just too expensive)
Bersa DT Thunder .380
KEL-TEC P3AT .380
Browning Buckmark Plus SE
North American Arms .22 magnum 1-1/8"
2X Springfield WW-II G.I. model .45 ACP
Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk .357 magnum
West German SIG-SAUER .45 ACP P220A (semi-retired)
West German SIG-SAUER P228 9m/m (RETIRED)

Adding too the list:

Brand new, Ruger stainless/syntheic 10/22
Colt M4A3 .223
Remy 12 gague model 870 Marine Magnum

Probably, some more I just haven't thought of? :uhoh:

Some of these sneak out to the range with me every once in a while;
but are not on my always list. Given the proper time to
care for firearms after a day at the range, I don't mind using them.
But, I cringe at the fact just knowing that it might be several days
before I can maintain them properly. That's just me, I'm I too anal
or what~?

Ala, my friend, yes I have a dozen or so handguns that fit into the "collecting dust" category.

Nothing wrong with them. They just aren't my first choice to take to the range lately. There is always something newer or shinier that catches my attention.

I have learned the hard way though... just because a gun doesn't get shot much today, it shouldn't be sold or traded. Old trends have a way of becoming new again.

Joe

You're absolutely right Joe my friend~!;)

I look back over the last 40 year's, and think about what I sold or traded;
and it makes me sick every time I think 'bout it. Far too many got away
from my stable of fine firearms~! Good Luck :D

FWIW, my new rule of the ole' thumb is to NEVER get rid of any more
firearms PERIOD~!

Hey Dan - yes guilty - well up to a point. ;)

Dust? Not the problem as they are secure in the safe but I do confess to not wringing out my favorite N frames on a very regular basis. Oh they get shot but - let us say in ''economy'' mode!

I also as another example, have a 44 mag RBH and because I have other 44 DA revos, find this one does sit quite a while between outings. Even the Pre K-22 only gets occasional use too, as the 22/45 sees the plinking sessions!

There are others too - but now I think only one which might merit true ''safe queen'' and that is my first early edition R9.

I do regard all my stuff as shooters but, confess with the likes of N frames to still enjoying taking them out for ogle and fondle :D

Yes, Chris My Friend-

Dust isn't a problem for me either, as all of 'em are secure within my safe.
On range day, I drag a few out and look 'em over; and say to myself-
well maybe next time? But, the next time never seems to arrive; and
they are pushed further towards the back.

Fun List

Ala Dan
When you decide that collecting dust is unfit for a few of those, let me know! ;) I'd be more than happy picking up another 220 or a 686! Just so you know where to go!

Any time you get even the slightest inkling of selling the Bersa, let me know. I've got a freelance check coming that would probably just cover the cost of a used Bersa Thunder... ;)

Plus, you get the warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that you put a helluva smile on a broke 23-year-old's face. :D

Bersa Irony

I changed out the mainspring in my Bersa for better feeding (just needed 1# of more strength) and I hoped to use it as a CCW backup to my Sig. But my wife started shooting it and that's how I got the Walther. She knew I wanted one, call it a bond attraction, and didn't like it. so she bought it for me and collected my Bersa until I can find her a Glock .380 she says she's keeping it... But I'll keep you in mind!

My Glock 34 and HK USPc do not see much use. I love shooting my Walther P99s better :)

I try to get all my guns dirty on a regular basis but for the most part my "dust collectors" include:
Italian Beretta 92 Centurion - because I shoot mostly its inox cousin
Ruger MK ii Slabsides
HK4 (mostly because I always forget how to field strip it  )
Ruger 10-22

There are a few guns that are close to achieving that status, but haven't yet:
P7M8
S&W mod 19-3
S&W mod 60 - 38 special that I bought before the +P ratings started popping up
Beretta Jetfire - my false sense of security

Dan - way to get a guy thinking about his collection!

Three years ago my only gun was my Colt King Cobra .357, now my collection has expanded. I've cleaned and oiled it often, but the last time I shot it was about 2 years ago to take out a pesky groundhog that took up residence under my lake cabin. That gun was accurate and real loud, but I caught the 1911 bug. One of these days it's going to take a ride to the range. Mike Z

I'm not a collector. If I can't put them to some sort of use or role, they get liquidized for something I can make use of. Granted, some get more use than others(that's inevitable) but they still get used.

yeah, i got a couple that don't see much range time. some were spur of the moment purchases, like the Taurus PT-138. i got it NIB for $150. great shooter, never once jammed up on me.

the reason I don't carry it is that for it's size, it should be a 9mm. it's slightly bigger than I want a backup gun to be, and i have more powerful guns that are the same bulk. it stays around, because it's great for teaching new shooters. virtually no recoil, but it has the feel of a full size gun.

I have retired I think a 1974 Winchester Super X Model 1 I have put ~ 300,000 rounds through.
Competed , hunted and used for serious situation duty. After a Tribute of sorts if you will, got to thinking, perhaps time to let this one rest a bit.
Oh the gun still runs, never misses a beat. Just...sentimental this Tribute and everything and being the last surviving person dealing with this whole Tribute matter...put it up.

Model 64 3" RB and Winchester 94 in 30-30 set aside too, again, sentimental reasons and like the SX1 - if they could talk - the stories they could tell.

1928 Colt Detective Special was obtained with some assistance from a good friend here on THR. Obtained for the purpose of sentiment from the get-go. Mentor wanted me to have something akin to what he had ( and there is a funny story about this gun , he and I and all...)
So this one stays "put up". Granted I have carried it some, assisted new shooters with it, and even taken small game *smirk*.
Don't care what Internet says...it will take small game

I last got it out for a lady to sketch this Colt DS, along with a manual typewriter, non- filter cigarette wafting smoke in a ashtray, Case Pocketknife, a shot glass with tea ( looked like whiskey) and a nylon hose sorta "tossed looked" over the typewriter. Some other unmentionable tossed about sketched in too...

Mickey Spillane / Mike Hammer type setting if you will. :D

"Of all the Dames that enter my office - I get one that wants to sketch". - me

"It is my office and are are those 158 gr standard pressure LSWC in the Dick Special?" - lady

You know a lady will drop her pencil, and sketchbook if you grin real evil back at her when she asks that question?

I've got a s&w 1076 that I love to shoot but just can't afford to feed until I can get a reloading setup so it only gets to play once in a while. I also have a sig p226 that I just don't like. I shoot my p99 and then I feel the huge reset on the 226 and just want to put it down. It will probably be sold off in the future if sig's short trigger reset kit doesn't come out or doesn't help enough.

I don't understand the "I never sell any of my guns" mentality. Over the years I have sold lots of guns. Yes, there have been a few that I regret selling. But, none that I've lost sleep over.

I just don't see the sense of keeping a gun that I don't shoot and that I don't particularly like. Yeah, I suppose if I had been smarter I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. But, I'm just not that presentient about how I'll regard each gun after I really get to know it.

My Colt Officers and the S&W 686...i just don't "feel" it when i'm shooting them. Also got a Savage 99 and some Remington 22 rifle in the safe somewhere. I think i shot them once.

I have found that rummaging around in the safe and getting reacquainted with a gun I've forgotten I had can be almost as much fun as getting a new gun, and a lot less expensive.

Colt NRM Government. Now sits on .22 duty for my Marvel Kit whenever I do take it out. But in .45 form, this gun gets no love from me on the range. Other more fun 1911s have taken that duty away from this gun.

Les Baer Custom Carry. Admittedly, this gun sits around at home. I take it with me to matches as a spare to my PII just in case.

Honorary mention: Beretta 92FS Inox. I've probably shot a total of 150 rds through it myself. My friends have shot it more than I have. I didn't like the long trigger stroke, or the excessive slack. My P226 got most of the 9mm duties so it sat around at home until finally I sold it. This was an all metal straight dustcover Inox version so I babied it until I couldn't handle it anymore, and off it went.

I don't have enough to allow the dust to collect. Even my Cobra .38spl derringer makes regular range trips, never hit anything with it mind you but it is a gun and needs to be fired.

Most of my guns collect dust, I just dont get to the range enough.

I have several guns I have NOT even fired.
