I recently acquired a used H&R .243 handi-rifle. The bore was really dirty and the first third of the barrel was heavily copper fouled. I set about doing my bore cleaning procedure and was shocked to see the marks in the final 4-5 inches (near the muzzle) in the bore. The marks are in the lands and grooves. I've seen tooling marks before but this is next level.
I did manage to get to the range for a short session and it looks like it might be a shooter once I get the right scope mount.
I'm curious if anyone has seen a bore like this.

I was a happier man before I bought a borescope.

A lot of people were happier before owning a bore scope.

I can tell you that no matter how well a machined part is finished, it will look rough under magnification. That is why parts that need to be smooth and held to a tight tolerance are ground. When I use to make rollers for metal forming mills and parts for stamping dies, we would make the parts a few thousands of an inch oversized before heat treatment. After heat treatment, we would grind the parts to final size for the closest tolerances and best finish.

No, I don't have a bore that looks like that. But all my ugly bores look different. Here's a pic of a Remlin .357 for example. E39F1904-2476-470A-9653-B4595993217B.jpeg

I had a Colt 1911 "national match" barrel that looked like that.

Somehow it was the best shooting 1911 I'd ever owned.

I bought a nice old Savege .270 that ended up having cleaning rod bore damage, but still prints 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. HAPPY CAMPER
