I saw an old thread with this subject. Figured I'd get responses that were newer and the same. Went to the range last week with 1885 Highwall Single shot Browning and my new acquisition Carl Gustaf Sauer 3000 both 30-06. Changed scopes from Tasco to Nikon on 3000 it shot right on with Tasco, but a $20. Scope, really. My 1885 less than a minute. 3000 couldn't hit paper. Bore sighted at home, obviously a terrible job. I couldn't hit paper at 100yds. Next time I'll go back to 50. To make a short story long. I use 6 reloading manuals to make my decisions, read IMR 4350 the most accurate powder weight 48-58gr. I went with 57,a lot of powder. Fed 210m primer. Seating depth 3.230.Almost out of that IMR any suggestions. And does the Sauer Colt action going to hold up pretty well to these loads? THR my favorite forum.

My post may be of no help, but I've just used IMR 4064 for that bullet in that cartridge...

I've been using Varget for all of my 30-06 168 match bullets, including Amax.

a max

this is what I do I bore sight it at home the go to the 25 yd range 2 shots you should be 4 inches under the bull that should put you on the paper at 110 meters have a safe day deputy bruce

IMR4064 and 3.340" OAL. 45.5 of out my '03A4 produces 1 hole groups on a good day.
"...I went with..." 58 of IMR4350 is the MAX load. You must work up the load for each rifle. No picking a load and hoping. Still won't fix bad bore sighting though.

57.0gr of 4350 under a 168gr match bullet is my favorite 30-06 load. I'm not sure what you are asking but if you are asking if you should use a different powder, my answer would be no.

When I was sighting in a wild one I would cover the entire 4x8 backstop with bleached white paper from the corrugating plant I used to work for.

I did the same thing you did with my Browning, took a tack driver and put a better scope on it and totally lost everything and had to start completely over.

Your not alone on this one.

I blamed it on the scope and after going through this exercise I found out it was shooting so low that I had to replace the brand new Millet mounts I bought for it.

If you need to cover the whole back stop you could get a roll of paper from Lowes used by carpenters for runners to keep the carpet clean in someone's house and staple it to the backstop.

By the way my pet load was and still is a 168 gr Sierra match king with 54gr of 4350 about .005" off the lands.
My Browning came through with a very tight chamber and I consider this to be maximum load for this rifle.
I'm still using that load and there was no reason for me to think that my load or my rifle had anything to do with why all of a sudden it was so far out with this new scope and mounts.

getting a Zero

My new scope is a Prostaff 2 knob adjustment. I had it installed 45 degrees off, when I got it correct it made it a lot easier to sight in. Still working with 25yds next 50 than 100. If anyone is reading this and know where I can obtain a 3round magazine For a Carl Gustaff 3000 30-06, Sauer`Colt action, I will dance at your wedding.
