Hay there folks!
Finally had the opportunity to spend some quality time with my Savage 10FP Wednesday. This is only the 2nd time I've had the rifle out, and finally was able to finish sighting in. Check it out!
First, the obligatory beauty shot:

Considering I now have a total of 90 rounds through this rifle, I'm pretty darn happy. :) When I do my part, she's down right SWEET!
 
10FP's

I have become extremely fond of my Savage 10FP .308 as well! I put her in a choate ultimate varmint stock, threw some TPS/TSR rings & bases on her, dropped in my Leupold 4.5x14 x 50mm, and have been shooting 3/4" at 200 ever since! She only has a 20" barrel, which limits her real long range capabilities... so when this barrel is shot out i'll throw on a longer one. That's one of the real sweet things about these, you can change the barrel yourself! The Accutrigger is also sweet! Savage is coming up!! Especially for the price range!
 
The Fp's are great rifle's!!!! Love mine ( pre accutrigger ) .3 Moa at 200yds. LC brass 41.0gr IMR4064 and 168gr. Sierra matchkings. I have done alot to the rifle, But nothing that most anyone can do! Scope is a Redfield golden 5star 4-12X40 w/target turrets. A great underrated scope!

I like that subtle camo job on the stock!:cool: You really can't beat these... accurate, fun, and affordable! I need to take some pics of mine...
 
Nice rig there Falcon. That is precisely the set up I've got in mind for a sub $1,000 "sniper" rifle. Everything on that rifle is the price performance king.


Nice groups too. Are those typical, or best of the day type groups?

Those are best of day, but the others were similar. The less than optimal :p groups were definitely my fault.

Wal-Mart sells the 10FP for $517; you can find cheaper. The Super Sniper is $400 from SWFA; the model without the side focus is $100 cheaper. Ken Farrell 20 MOA base was $72.80; the Ken Farrell standard 30mm rings were $142.50. I could have gone cheaper on the rings, but I spent a good 45 minutes to an hour on the phone with Ken himself asking questions. He was very helpful with choices and advice so it was worth every penny. Here's a detail shot:

The Beartooth Comb Raising kit is $18 from Cabelas. I found the Harris LMS bipod on eBay for $80 + s&h. I reload my own ammo.

My next upgrade will probably be a Bell & Carlson Medalist Varmint/Target/Tactical stock. That's about $200. Then find someone locally to bed it. With that the rifle should be capable of shooting as well as I am for a while to come. :)
 
get a wood stock. they're prettier. :)

Nice rifles...one and all. I like Savages, they need a little work to get there but that is part of the fun. They have the best darned factory barrels going.

As far as wood stocks go, have you ever tried to butt strike someone with plastic? Go wood FTW. :evil:

I've got a 110 (Long Action) setup similar to yours and know how well they shoot.

So quit horsin' around... center punch the dime and post the photos:D
 
Falconeer, when you get a Medalist/Tactical/Varmint stock from B&C takes some photos and let me know what you think. I'm torn between it and the Savage Shooters Stock Varmint/Tactical.
Those are some damn nice groups. I hope my 12BVSS will print like that :) I've only sighted it in, but it did well at 109 with XM118LR. What were you shooting?
 
gearbox: Definitely plan to. :) I've looked at the SS but the extra cost makes it difficult, and I believe the Medalist has a higher comb. As you can see from my first pic, the scope is fairly high up off the barrel. The Ken Farrell rings are hefty. :p

My rounds are Lake City 91 brass from GI Brass that I full length resized, trimmed, and chamfured (sp?). I'll be neck sizing them once I go through all of the brass once. 44grn of Varget, Winchester large rifle primers, and Remmington 150grn core-lokt spitzer bullets (were on special at MidwayUSA).

When I use up the 150 grn bullets, I have a thousand Speer 180grn Spitzer bullets that I'm going to use for my development load. The Bullet Guy is selling off the last of a Speer overrun at good prices. :)

MJ: :p Better buy a couple more before the price goes up! :p

Last outing, shooting M118, = 3/4" @ 250 yards... off of bibod.. need to do some work on the bipod/mounting rail setup... That and putting a bigger bolt handle/knob on it are the only short range plans.... when this barrel is done, definitely want to go with a longer (24-26") one.

This is my "new to me" M700 Sendero in .300 win mag, HS Precision stock, Answer muzzle brake & pad, Burris Signature 8x32 in BO base & rings. Haven't gotten to play with her yet, can't wait!

And... my Busmaster XM15E2S, 20", w/ ARMS SIR rail/freefloat system, ARMS #40L BUIS, and cheapo aimpoint wanna-be! (Hey, it is worth the $50 I paid for it!)

I have a savage 10FP -LE2 (26in barrel) that has grouped five into .219" at 100. I practice by hitting clay pidgeons laid on the ground at ranges up to 400yds!

Got to say that the manufacturer states it's intended to be free floated, bedding might be a bad call. From what I understand most Remingtons are bedded with forend tip pressure and most get more accurate once free floated. Part of Savage's unique design is the pillar bedded free float barrel which as we all agree results in a very accurate rifle out of the box. I'm curious what the objective diameter is on your scope because it looks like your scope is way up there compared to my IOR 2.5-10x44.
 
B&C Medalist?

The medalist is only $200? Is that finished/painted? Thanks! (the obj on my Leupy = 50mm, on the Burris = 44mm... never used a Burris before... any comments/thoughts/tips/tricks? Thanks!

Does the pillar bedding mean it doesn't need to be 'bedded'? I thought the bedding (fiberglass, etc) was a continued improvement.

The Super Sniper is a 42mm objective.

Correct. Here's a link. I don't know what the turn around time on them is, but you can get it in the standard black for $198.95. More if you want different colors/textures. :)

One of the selling points of these Savages is the ease in changing the barrel. It can be done at home instead of having to send it to a smith. What are the drawbacks/cons of this???

PS- anyone looking to part with a McMillan A5 for my M700 Sedero with the long action? There's a 20 week wait right now! Thanks!

Also have the original Savage stock for the 10FP accutrigger if anyone is looking for one! And a set of Leupold rings & bases for the 10FP short action I'm looking to sell/trade...

When you get tired of pigeons move back to 500 and use batus. That ought to pep you up some.:evil:
