I been eyeballin' another 1858 Remington. My local candy store has had one for the past 6 months ... a Pietta stainless steel/fixed sight model (date code BU). The asking price was $200 (front post sight is buggered up from what looks like a pliers). Bear in mind, considering Cabela's prices, $200 in itself was a good deal ... but I asked when they were going to be on sale, and one thing led to another, and I got it for $175.00
Looks like I get ta do some cleaning and tuning. Deburr the springs, make sure there's no burrs or nasty machining marks in the hammer and hand slots. I just finished tearin' it down, and the initial review doesn't indicate any major problems ... but there's a lotta black oily gunk in there that needs to be scrubbed out.
I've been toying with cutting one down by about an inch, not enough to have to mess with the loading lever catch post. My new toy one is a prime candidate for cutting down, due to the front sight issue and I won't havta worry about re-bluing it!
Once I get her cleaned up and tuned a little, I'll take some pictures.
