I've been loading my high power competition loads with VV N140 for years. Over the last couple of years N140 because expensive and scarce. During that same time, I discovered TAC. Only used TAC as a plinking powder but each load surprised me as very accurate and because it meters so well. So I decided to run some test and compare TAC to N140 with a couple of different bullets. And I have been pleasantly surprised. It was lights out at 100 yards and lights out at 600 yards. My favorite has been 24 grains of TAC with the SMK 80 grains. Seated 20 thousands off the lands for my Krieger LR barrel.

Here are 5 shots at 100 yards.

I've been working with TAC in the .308, both to find a good plinking load for my M1a, and for more serious work in my Savage model 10. My first load workup outshot my regular IMR4064/168grn SMK load... and I wasn't really even trying, so I'm continuing on with that testing.

Once I get the .308 stuff worked out, I'll start on the 5.56mm stuff. I expect Great Things!

Please be sure to post any new results, if you don't mind. I recently bought a pound to try out but haven't loaded with any yet.

Here's my load data. These were not my most accurate but I shot 5 group shots. But I included the data for the 4 best shots as well. Most groups were around 1.5 MOA. Shot using a sling. Im sure all these loads would perform better on a bench.

Don't own a 308 but have 2 Savage 223 I shoot competitively and now use 3 powders TAC, Benchmark and 2460. Now for some reason the Model 12 barreled rifle does not like the 69gr bullet and Benchmark that my Model 10 loves.

I liked tac for my blammo 223, but I have switched to Shooters World AR Plus for the price

I've been using TAC for light plinking loads in .223 for a while with good results. I'm now in the process of working up some .223 loads with Sierra 77 gr BTHP to see if I can get some really accurate target loads. Hopefully all will go well.

When the scare was on in 2020, I bought all the .223/5.56 powder I could get my hands on.

I ended up with 23 lbs of TAC, 12 lbs of AA2230, 4 lbs of H335. Maybe a couple others.

1st load I worked up was with TAC. I haven’t used anything else since.

It's the only powder I've used for my AR and I've worked up a few good loads for my 55 grain plinkers as well as my 75 grain "long distance" bullets. Haven't needed a reason to try any other powder...

Many years ago I found that for 223 that Tac and 55 grain bullets go together like PB&J. Due to this I have put back several kegs of Tac. This allowed me to keep loading and shooting through this recent "mess". This is the best propellant I have tried for 55 and 63 grain bullets so far. I see no need to change.

After flirting with TAC in my 308, I looked through my load test notes and found it's the most accurate powder in 3 loads. I'm surprised. It kinda slipped through on me. I use it for 55 grain FJM, 55 grain soft points, and 52 grain Match Burners. It didn't shoot very well in 308 with FMJ, but there was plenty of room to move around if I wanted. I tried the minimum listed charge from Hodgden, but I could go up or down and still be in range for the Hornady bullets.

I like it in Grendel as well. 27.0 grains seems to be extremely accurate with every 120/123 grain bullet I have tried.

I use tac for 55,62,69,and 75 grain 5.56 with nothing but success. It meters well, good velocity, cheaper than most, what’s not to like? The most accurate powder for me is ar comp but doesn’t do as well with lighter seeds in my rifles. Tac has the perfect burn rate(close to ar comp) for the 62 and 69 grain. Varget is good too but for the price, tac is the business.
