I read in another post that somebody had the barrel of their Browning Hi Power hard chromed. I'd be interested in doing this to one or more of my firearms.

Where can I have it sent to do this, and about how much would it cost?

Call Accurate Plating and Weaponry, if you can get Steve Cogan while he is there great, if not they will give you his phone number (he is still next door as far as I know). He is a superb gunsmith and the plating work at AP&W is awesome. If someone can give you the skinny on plating barrels I would think he is the guy.

Hi I think the best Hard chromer is Checkmate in Florida. Sorry I dont have their number handy.

I can say this about them..they mess up less than other hard chromers.....and they fix what they screw up...

Believe me, as someone in the industry, I know...

And stay away from Fords...

Has anyone had any experience with the above or Tripp Research . I am wanting to hard chrome one of my guns and just wanted to hear someone's experience. Oh and pics of the work would be nice also.

If you are shooting corrosive ammo and your maintenance is not perfect a chrome bore is a great idea, but there are only a couple shops in the country that can/will do it. Call all of them and get their best advise, you will know which one to use after talking to them.

I had a S&W mod 469 hard chromed by Accurate plateing and weaponry in 1989. I believe Cogan called it Enduraguard. I carried that pistol for off duty use just shoved in my waistband,Mexican , and in the 5 years of use it never showed any wear or corrosion. All I ever did was wipe it witha dry cloth at the end of the day. The stuff was used on the barrel also and was always slick clean with no lead buildup. IMO a great finish and at the time turnaround was about 2 weeks.

I've heard a lot of complaints about Checkmate as well. However I haven't heard anything bad about AP&W. I went with Ford's, and was satisfied. I've never heard anything bad about Tripp's as well. Metaloy and Alamo are supposed to be good too. I would not go with Metalife.

Just so you know, when I reccommend Checkmate that is based on personal observation and fuction testing of probably 250 hard chrome guns they have done.

You can use anyone you like, but I would be willing to give them a reference for quality.

Do not chrome the inside of the bore.
