Hard chroming of pistol parts

Looking for someone to hard chrome the controls, grip safety, and barrel bushing on my 1911. Who do you guys recommend to do these at a reasonable price. A while back I was quoted at $9.00 a part over the phone, but I forget who that was and can't seem to find a price close to that. Last quote I got was $20 a part!

Tripp Research price list attached. Lists 'small parts' at $6.00 per part, so I'd call and double check if that includes what you want hard chromed. Do it fast, though, as I'm sure their workload will get heavy soon as everyone gets their pistols and parts in for the legendary Tripp's Cobra Chrome before he finishes in June.

Also check out Ron Mahovsky at mahovskysmetalife.com or call him at 814-436-7747. He does a hard chrome plating called SS Chromium Metalife that's extremely durable and long lasting.

Will post a report here if interested.

Can't beat his price or his reputation. When I researched having this gun done I could not find a single person not satisfied with his work. Can't say that about anyone else.

In case you're wondering how well hard chrome (in this case done by Ron Mahovsky of Metalife), holds up over time; this is my Beretta Model 70S that he plated nearly 30 years ago. Still looks as good today as it did when I got it done.

That's exactly why I'm wanting them hard chromed. I may hard chrome the slide and frame eventually, but right now the finish is holding up and I haven't ruled out a nice hot blue.

The reasons I got the Beretta hard chromed were:

1) There was something wrong with the factory bluing. Rust was appearing on the frame, almost as though it was underneath the bluing.

2) The factory acknowledged there had been a problem with some of the early models and reblued it under warranty.

3) A short time later the rust returned. Since another rebluing job might not fix the problem, and was more expensive than Metalife's SS Chromium plating, I decided to go with the Metalife. I'm glad I did.

Find someone with a Springfield Loaded in Stainless. When he takes off all the hard chromed parts to put on stainless ...make him an offer

You can also try Ford's Guns in Florida. I have used them and Virgil Tripp in the past. This 9mm 1911 was done this month by Virgil Tripp. Regards, Richard
