Hard Shell rifle case recommendation needed

Greetings:

I'm going on a shooting trip sometime soon.
Can someone recommend a reasonably priced hard-shell gun case with loops I can pass a padlock through?
I'm thinking the overall length would have to be 53" or so, since I'm planning on taking my full-length Mosin-Nagant with me.
I'd prefer the case to be able to accommodate two rifles, with standard "egg crate" foam (ie, not the harder foam with cut-outs in a specific shape).

i like my Pelican 1700 case. you will need the longer version for the nagant

It isnt too expensive ($170 IIRC) and is a tank. Has wheels on it and feels pretty bomb proof.

it comes with three layers of foam, and you do not HAVE to cut the middle layer to fit if you use it for more than one rifle.

I carry my BR ar in it and it gets tossed in the trunk often, never worry about my optics losing zero or anything like that.

I have a SKB that's about 14 or 15 years old. If a latch fails they will send a free replacement. I managed to mangle one. Can remember the cost, but I think it's comparable to the Pelican.

If you only need it once, a cheap gander mountain one will do.

Scoped precision rifles need a bit more protection than Olga, the Russian Basbushka of rifles, does.

Actually, I see only fairly pricey cases on Gander Mountain's site.
I'm kinda looking for low-budget stuff...

Various price-points and features. I have one of their budget 2-rifle cases. Taken it from Tucson to Salt Lake and back, twice, by air, and several times by car. No issues. Next time, I'll probably spring for one with wheels at one end.

Another vote for Pelican cases. In the cool kids portion of the .mil that was the industry standard and they're incredibly rugged and entirely suitable for travel and such. They're not bad on price, and you can sometimes find them for even better prices used on eBay and other venues.

Guess your not flying?? Go to what even gun shop or sporting/gun like dicks or maybe wally world stores and look for a cheapy plano case for under 40 bucks. If flying spend the money for a good hard air worthy case. I have one thats 25 years old for that propose.

I bought a Field & Stream brand (as I recall) 2-rifle aluminum hard case with egg shell foam at Dicks for about $50. (It may well be made of the same material used to make truck boxes versus aluminum?) It is heavy, long, has some sharp corners, but it will provide the kind of protection you seek at a modest price. It may well have been on sale at the time.

I have a few Plano cases and they seem to work fine for storage and range trips. Mine can be locked and was bought for under $50

Why spend more on the case than on the gun? Mosin=$79.95, Pelican Case= $175.00. Now, if you're going to fly a lot with your gun, it's worth the Pelican, but for one or two trips, just buy another Mosin.

If you’re going to get a cheap case I’d buy it at a store rather than online. My experience has been that the shipping on something that size will be half the cost of the case. I also don’t see many hard cases at the LGS’s around here, don’t know about your area. The (sort of) local Cabella’s always seems to have big hard cases at decent prices. I have several cheap cases for car trips. My favorite is made by Flambeau. I can fit two full sized rifles in it easily. I think I paid about $50 or $60 for it on sale. I think it’s about 53” X 12”. I don’t recall ever seeing one that didn’t have a hole for a padlock. Every cheap case that I have that has seen heavy use has eventually needed the foam replaced – some of my guns have pokey bits on the sides of them. This may not be an issue for a one-time use though. Oh, also the sizes they post are usually maxim outside dimensions, so plan for an inch or two more than you need.

A thought – if it’s for just one time what about borrowing a case from a friend?

One thing about flying with a really cheap case: some of them are so flexible that you can literally bend the top open and take the gun out even when the case is padlocked. I don't know about airline security, but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a gun in a case like that get out of my sight.

Then again, it is a Mosin...

My 91/30 mosin does not fit.

I've got a hard plastic Plano double rifle case that was $20 at Walmart. Works great for what I use it for. I stick it in the trunk when transporting guns to and from the range and on hunting trips and it works perfect and was super cheap.

My requirements here are a bit offbeat. I don't expect to be flying with guns anytime soon. I also don't hunt (lack of time and inclination, I'm not opposed to hunting in any way). So having a robust case that will stand up to years of heavy transit, and indifferent baggage handlers isn't much of an issue here.
My local range is great, but I can't fire stuff like my SKS, Mosin or AKM because it's literally in the middle of suburbia - if the range got too "loud" for the neighbors, it would get shut down.
Later on this year, I'm driving upstate where I'll get to fire the Mosin for the first time, but none of my cases will accommodate it.
My range trips are usually solo, so I try to fit as much as I can into as few cases as possible, so a largish case would be ideal.
My approx 40" Mezzi case, for instance, will hold my Marlin 1894, Savage .22 boltie, and two handguns.
I figure a larger case could finally hold the Mosin, as well as at least three other guns.
I appreciate the responses given so far... Today is my only day off, so I'm hoping to make it over to the new Dick's location near me, and see what they have...
