Hard to stay jazzed up about the 6.8mm in an AR platform

They are hard to find.

Frankly, I think that the idea of offering the 700 in 6.8SPC is really pretty goofy on Remington's part. The Model 7 or Zastava mini-Mauser would have been a much better platform for the chambering, since it is neither a long distance round nor a full power hunting round.

AB asked earlier in the thread why a Model 7 would be desirable in 6.8SPC, and my answer is strictly so that I could have ammo compatability with my ARs in a lightweight stalker platform. Ultimately, I would prefer that Remington offered a Zastava mini-Mauser in 6.8 SPC (or CZ chamber it in their 527), to get the benefit of CRF. That would be a neat walkabout rifle for everywhere that I'm likely to walk, and I would plunk down hard cash for one. Put a VXIII in 1.75x-6x on it, and I can't imagine a more useful tool for what I would need a field rifle to do...

They were no doubt going for ammo interchange between POLICE ARs and POLICE short range sniper weapons. The same idea that makes a 5.56mm OK for short range (100 yards or less in most police shootings) hostage rescue work would also roll over to the 6.8mm. (270 kurtz)
A 90 grain Sierra 270 caliber hollow point at 3,000 fps would make a good short range skull blaster.
