I've seen listings for an indoor range in Harrisonburg, VA called U.S. Training & Development Center. I'm heading down for the weekend to visit with the inlaws and might need to get out of the house for awhile.

Anyone dealt with these folks before?

This is all I know about them. I'm looking for the directions to the outdoor range near Staunton and will post them if I can find them. JT

Harrisonburg - U.S. Training & Development Center, Rt 988, Early Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
Phone: 540-434-8999
Facilities include: Indoor Pistol (25 yds), Indoor Rifle (25 yds)
Range Access: Public

Guess I'll just have to call them to find out hours, etc. The funny thing about the NRA RangeFinder is that it isn't alway accurate regarding as to what constitutes a "public" range. Some of the ranges around here as being public are, in fact, not.

whenever i am in the Harrisonburg area, which is like 2x a year, i shoot at a nice little range in the GW National forest. to get there just get on 33 west and drive into WVA, the turn to the range will be on your right as you are coming down the mountain. if you need better directions feel free to email me.

you want the Dry River Ranger District

Thanks! Actually as the in-laws live in Augusta County, it would be quicker to go down to Hite Hollow in Augusta Springs.......

What's the rules at Dry River? Are there posted hours, need for a range officer, etc?

Are you referring to the National Forest range out past Buffalo Gap? Take 254 West out of Staunton, then follow as it merges with 42 South. You'll see signs for the range along the way. It's on the west side of the road, somewhere near Augusta Springs or Craigsville,IIRC. I never use it, but I hunt the WMA on the east side of the road.

There are posted hours, that are pretty much during daylight hours. I have always just drove up and started shooting, no need for a RO. If others show up you just have to communicate to them what's going on for cease fires etc.
