Has anyone ever used .270 brass for handloading .243?

Being kind of a hoarder, I save all my reusable brass, unless someone is looking for something I have and I don't use, then I freely give it away. I have saved .270 brass because I used to have one and I have a buddy who has one now. I am wanting I trim the case down and resize it, or is there something in the case dimentions that will stop me from doing this safely?

You're going to have to push that shoulder way down and trim a lot off the neck..will probably wind up with quite thick nec walls and have to ream out quite a bit. Why not see if you can find some 308 brass if you have to do it this way. 308 is the parent case of the 243.

Wouldn't be so bad if you were forming 6mm/244 as it is lots longer.

No, you can do it, but it involves a lot more work & expense then just selling the 270 brass for what you can get, and buying 243 brass.

You will have anneal it first in order to resize it that much.
Then resize it and push the shoulder back and neck it down.
Followed by hacksawing off the extra neck length.
Then trimming it square with a case trimmer.
Then neck reaming or outside turning to get rid of the excess neck thichness.

Somebody on THR "Buy, Sell and Trade: Reloading Components and Gear" forum needs your .270 brass worse then you do.

Sell the dang stuff and buy some properly marked .243 brass!

You might even be able to swap the 270 for 243 1 for 1 if you were patient. Also try Gun Broker as I have found a bunch of 243 brass listed there often. Just use their search function. I am way glad I became a member there cause I get lots of stuff from all over the US at good prices.
